The African Renaissance Monument near Dakar, close to areas like the Radisson Blu Hotel Sea Plaza, houses a museum inside the statue itself that explores African history and culture. During my recent trip, I climbed to the viewing platform for stunning panoramic views of the city and ocean, while the exhibits on the ground floor included a slideshow on the monument's construction and a fresco highlighting key African figures. The Hall of Kings features sculptures and historical artifacts, offering a thoughtful look at African heritage, though some find the symbolism controversial. Entry tickets are purchased on-site (around 5,000-10,000 CFA, varying by access level), and it's best visited early to avoid crowds—combine it with nearby spots like Phare des Mamelles for a full day. It's a bold, must-see landmark symbolizing African resurgence, even if the interior museum feels modest compared to the imposing exterior.
Hi Kawa Thank you for your support review We welcome your friends and family to explore more Senegal
The tour guide was professional. The activities were very nice and the tour guide had a lot of information regarding the sites in Dakar and Goreé island
Hi Kimanzi Thank you for your time to write a record We welcome your family and friends
We went to a variety of African museums. Our tour guide was knowledgeable on the area. I have found that African museum tours are a little bit disappointing overall because they tend to focus on telling you what the item is, as opposed to why it is there and who this person is. Museums are a way to tell stories, and should be more than a collection of items. The touring company was excellent, the museums were a bit disappointing.
Hi Michael We were pleased to receive you and share quality moments We thank you so much for choosing our services
This musium/monument tour is amazing. I didn't know about Ousmane Sow, but his house turned into museum is wonderful. You get to see many of his master pieces close up, and they will fascinate you. The house itself is a nicely designed great architecture. Visiting inside the African Renaissance statue is a precious experience. Inside exhibitions are fun to see, and the small elevator you take to go to the top of the statue is exciting. You get to see great view of the statue and the city of Dakar from the top. It's not easy to wander into this statue without prior arrangement, and Pape does it best. The Black Civilization Museum is definitely a must-see. Full of amazing exhibitions (historical stuff, plus first-class traditional and modern arts) and you get to fully enjoy them with Pape's gauidance. I totally recommend! In case some might be worried about the sacurity in the city after some news coverage of political unrest, I have to tell you it's totally safe and calm. I thought about cancelling the trip once, but I'm so glad I didn't!!! Thank you, Pape!
Hi We thank you so much joining our tour. You’re and your family and friends are welcome
Pape knows Senegal history! The museums and monument are must do activities. Pape is very thorough with his explanations, takes his time, and has a sense of humor. You can’t go wrong with him leading your group.
Hi Excellent it was to share moments with you during the visits. Thank You
The trip to the museum and the Renaissance monument were outstanding. Although I was a bit reluctant to climb the 210 stairs....I did it...I felt so proud of myself as I came down the 210(420) total....I would have enjoyed more time at the museum...but I do plan for another trip to Senegal. We toured not only the tourist spots, but we explored the food and cultures of the people. The tour was really and enrichment for me. Our trip was in March 2020 pre-Covid
Hi Mom, That was a great plaisir for me to guide you in Dakar and through Sénégal and The Gambia. Great moment of exchange. Always welcome to Senegal. Thank You so much Pape
