I had a wonderful time in the Corcovado jungle with Cristina. She is an amazing guide that knows as much about plants as animals, which makes the whole trip feel complete and unique. If you want to discover the forest by connections between everything around you, I highly recommend her
Worth the big price tag? (Plus 50$ “tax” upon arrival, not included in the initial price). I’m not convinced, but you be the judge, depending on your enthusiasm for wildlife. The beds are pretty uncomfy and food basic but decent. The guide was lovely and full of knowledge. The walks are simple and well trodden by scores of tourists every day. In terms of hiking, there are much better. The guide means you can pick out loads of stuff you’d never notice on your own.
This had the potential to be a very cool experience. Unfortunately, much of the experience hinges on your guide. If there are too many people, it hinders your ability to see animals or even hear what information is being shared. Our group ended up being 10 people which was way too many. I would recommend trying to get a service that doesn’t put you in such a large group. It was neat to see the animals and our guide did her best but it was too many people. We ended up waiting for people to get ready half the time and the other half animals were gone by the time the end of the group got to see and they didn’t even know what they were looking for. The trails are narrow in most places and require a single file line. I was expecting this to be the highlight of the trip but it ended up being a bit of a disappointment.
Cristina was a great guide and spotted many animals! Sleeping conditions are basic but it’s part of the fun.
My wife and I booked a two night stay at Sirena Station in Corcovado with OSA Wild. We have used OSA Wild for day trips into Corcovado (La Leona and San Pedrillo) and they have always been very responsive and things have always happened as planned. This time was no exception...OSA Wild is GREAT! Since we started our overnight trip at Drake Bay we met our guide, Luis Vega, at Sirena after a very nice boat ride (Humpback whales!). The day before our trip we we decided to stay only one night and we let Luis know this on arrival. He was very supportive and made sure we had a boat back to Drake Bay the next day. After this bit of business Luis took great care of us, first getting us settled at the station and then showing us one wonder after another during the rest of the day and into the next. We can't say enough good about Luis. He is extremely knowledgable and has an eagle eye for spotting wildlife...we saw lots and lots (we especially loved seeing the nesting Trogon and Woodpecker). He is also just a really nice guy, and we enjoyed talking with him about things in general (his English is very good) during the down times (meals and rest breaks). We learned so much from Luis! Looking back we know that two nights at Sirena might have been too much for us (it's hot!), but we are glad we spent one night as we for sure saw more than we would have on a day trip. Thanks again to Luis and OSA Wild!
Great experience, seen a lot of animals, more than anywhere else in Costa Rica. Absolute added value to do an overnight stay because of the extra hikes you have with this. Sleeping may not be super comfortable, but all in all it is an experience. Meals were well catered for (although it would be good for the 5AM morning hike if there was perhaps something of fruit before departure not to leave on a completely empty stomach, the breakfast after the hike was very extensive) Kristina was also the best guide we could wish for. Her knowledge of flora and fauna, her keen eye for spotting animals, great telescope that she always managed to position very quickly, and incredible kindness we greatly appreciated. Definitely the best guide we have had in Costa Rica.
If you want to see the natural beauty of the world, this is one of the top adventures you should do during your life. We've been on safaris in Africa, explored Antarctica, trekked through remote areas of the Amazon jungle, and this ranks as one of our top experiences. Even though we spent only 1 night in Corcovado Sirena Station, we saw more animals in that short period of time thanks so our remarkable guide, Alonso Morales. Alonso could spot animals hidden across rivers and behind massive clumps of trees that we would never have seen without his guidance. Plus, as a biologist, his knowledge of the animals is amazing! When we first arrived, Alonso asked us what we wanted to see and we gave him a list of some hard-to-find-animals, like the anteater and tapir. He worked hard to track down animals so that we saw everything on our list and much more, including beautiful toucans, caymans, spider and howler monkeys swinging through trees, a capybara, a boa constrictor, a crocodile, wild pigs and much more. I love birds but don't know much about them. Alonso spotted so many that I can't even list the number. We highly recommend him. We're glad we stayed overnight as we got to see lots of animals but recommend staying only 1 night as sleeping by lots of people, some of whom wake up early with their lights glowing or who snore, does not make for the most restful sleep. Still, I loved hearing the birdsong and howler monkeys in the morning. The food was very good, and they gave you lots of it. I particularly loved the spaghetti - try both sauces - and the fresh fruit. What a great adventure!
Must-see experience not to be missed when you make Costa Rica for the first time. The overnight stay on site is a plus
My partner and I had an unforgettable experience on this tour. Our guide Donny was incredible, he had great knowledge of the area not just the animals but also the history. It was amazing how he could spot the smallest birds, frogs and insects. There are a lot of other places in the world where it feels like the animals are there to make money, we didn’t get that impression here. It felt like the well being of the animals came first and so we didn’t mind paying to support this. For example no outside food is allowed to avoid people feeding the animals and there are park rangers to make sure the rules are being followed. The boat rides there and back are an experience in themselves. It’s a pricey experience but we felt the money was going to support a amazing cause.
This experience is definitely worth the price. You’ll see so much more wildlife if you stay overnight in Corcovado. We had a guide, his name was Donny, who showed us a Tapir mommy feeding her child. We learned so much more than all the guests leaving Sirena in the afternoon on the first day.
