This experience is a must do for anyone that loves to be in the kitchen, it was very hands on and you get to make everything from scratch. We really enjoyed the whole experience and atmosphere of the restaurant and kitchen, I would do it again for sure Mateo was a really great teacher for the four of us that were there.
We had a lot of fun on our market and cooking tour! We love markets, generally, and Olga (our guide) was clearly loved by many of the vendors who know her by name. We bought the ingredients for the lunch we cooked with Matteo at his restaurant Otto.Zero. The menu included gnocchi, sauce, tiramisu, bruschetta, and everything was delicious! It was just the two of us, which was good...only another 2 or 3 people maximum could fit comfortably in the kitchen...but it's definitely a worthwhile and fun activity for 2 couples or a family!
If you love good food and enjoy cooking, then you are just like us. It‘s always a pleasure to visit an Italian market. Together with our guide Olga we enjoyed shopping at the local market for the ingredients needed later on . Then while cooking in the kitchen of a restaurant Matteo, the chef himself gave us a lot of helpful hints and tricks how to make homemade Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce, Saltimbocca and Tiramisu. Time passed quickly, we had lots of fun and at the end we enjoyed all the delicious dishes we made ourselves. We felt very welcome and highly recommend this tour.
We had an excellent time with Olga and Matteo. Visiting the market was an experience in itself and so fun. We then went to Matteo’s restaurant where we made some lovely dished plus dessert. There were 5 of us in total, 2 in our group and it was also enjoyed sharing the experience with some new friends. Well organized but yet no strict timetable or script. Very hands on and interactive.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We are thrilled to hear you had such an excellent time with Olga and Matteo. It’s wonderful that you enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the local market, it really is the heart of our daily life here. We believe the best cooking happens when there’s a balance between professional organization and a relaxed, "no script" environment, so we’re glad you appreciated the interactive and hands-on flow of the class at Matteo's restaurant. One of our favorite parts of these tours is seeing "new friends" made over great food and a shared dessert! We will be sure to pass your compliments along to Olga and Matteo. We hope to welcome you back to our kitchen again someday! Warm regards,
This was an exceptional experience of local market shopping and culinary exploration with Chef Matteo, who owns a local restaurant, Otto.Zero, and his assistant, Olga. We were greeted by Olga at the shuttle stop who then led us through town to a local market where we picked up fresh vegetables and meat to use in preparing our meal. Chef Mateo instructed us on how to prepare gnocchi, tiramisu, and a wonderful veal dish- add to that wine and it was a spectacular cooking class that ended with a delicious lunch! This is a hands on class and If I could give it more stars I would!
Thank you so much for your glowing review and for the "extra stars"! It was a true pleasure having you with us. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the full experience, from the morning meetup with Olga to the vibrant atmosphere of our local market. Selecting fresh, seasonal ingredients is the foundation of Italian cuisine, and we’re glad you enjoyed that "behind-the-scenes" look at how we source our meat and vegetables. Chef Matteo was delighted to hear your compliments! He loves sharing the secrets of his kitchen, and it sounds like you mastered the gnocchi, veal, and tiramisu perfectly. There is nothing quite like enjoying a meal you've prepared yourself, especially when paired with good wine and great company! Sharing the authentic flavors of Civitavecchia is our passion, and reviews like yours make our work so rewarding. We hope to see you again for another culinary adventure in the future!
Our tour guide was Olga…wonderful experience and she was very knowledgeable of the area and its history. We have a private cooking class (4 hours) with chef Matteo at his restaurant, Otto.Zero. He has GREAT…taught us real Italian cooking and then we had lunch all together. Highly recommended!
Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your high recommendation! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a wonderful private experience with us. It is great to know that Olga provided a fascinating introduction to our city before your class. Chef Matteo was also delighted to host you at Otto.Zero! He truly enjoys teaching the secrets of "real Italian cooking," and we believe that sitting down to enjoy the lunch you prepared together is the perfect way to end the session. Sharing our culinary traditions with guests like you is what we love most. We hope you’ve been able to recreate some of those recipes at home! Warmly,
Want an intimate experience learning how to make local Italian dishes from start to finish? We were a group of 4 friends who enjoy food and good times and were looking for an authentic experience. We got what we were looking for. Our “guide” Olga met us at the Civitavecchia port terminal and guided us to the local city food market for the ingredients of what we were scheduled to make. She also answered all our questions about items in the food stalls we passed. Olga then handed us over to our instructor/ mentor, chef Matteo. He guided us through making fresh Gnocchi, a tomato sauce from scratch and a veal/sage/prosciutto meat dish. Once completed we sat down to enjoy what we’d just learned to make. So good! What makes this experience stand out was the effort of Olga and Matteo to make us feel comfortable and confident in what we were doing. We felt like we’d accomplished something we could all enjoy. We encourage anyone who enjoys good food and like to learn from a local pro to take this excursion
What a glowing review! It’s wonderful to hear how Olga and Matteo teamed up to create such a hands-on, rewarding experience. Moving from the vibrant local market to mastering fresh gnocchi and Saltimbocca (that classic veal, sage, and prosciutto combo!) sounds like the ultimate Italian Saturday. We are so proud of the confidence our guests gain in the kitchen!

Olga met us and took us to shop at the local market and then onto Otto Zero for our cookery class. Matteo was a gentleman and very passionate about his restaurant and food. The cookery class was excellent and the food we helped cook was amazing. We felt privileged that Matteo spent time with us to show us so much as he runs a busy restaurant. Olga was a fabulous , knowledgeable guide. It really was a very special experience. Im so glad we didn't go into Rome and spent a beautiful morning in this restaurant. Highly recommend this tour.
