Great walking tour of the historic medieval town of Carcassonne. Great way to burn off calories from the wonderful dinner of the previous evening. Wear supportive walking shoes.
It was a wonderful experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour of Carcassonne extremely interesting. She was passionate about southern France and its history. I would recommend this tour.
Fantastic tour and it really brought the castles history alive. Lots of information that you would struggle to find through normal research. Loved it
Thank you !
Julian is an excellent guide with a very friendly manner. His information was detailed and interesting but not pedantic. My husband uses a cane to walk and Julian was very accommodating of his pace and kept us engaged. This was a wonderful introduction to the old walled city. We particularly enjoyed his echo in the Castle room with the frescos. Another couple were in the room and they looked like they wanted to join us. I also like the explanation of the 3 different centuries of stained glass. Julian's story of the accountant's loo was funny and memorable.
Thank you so much, this is thank to visitors like you that i wake up every day with the will of sharing the history of Carcassonne.
Very engaging, but long periods of silence with very little additional information that wasn’t on the guide boards . I also expected a 3.5 hour tour to include the city on the other side of the river but this is basically a walk around the ramparts for the most part. We couldn’t go into the cathedral because there was a mass I. But I would have expected a local guide to have timed our route around this using local knowledge.
Hello Samantha, the tour duration is not 3,5 hours and the mass is on sunday morning. Sometimes groups occupied the church on other timing and it is unpredictible. The rempart is not the most convinent part for stops and commentary unfortunately. I can understand our frustration but you complain about elements out of the guide control.
Although Julian spoke English , and he seemed to know the history of the city, it was sometimes difficult to understand what he was saying My only complaint was the exorbitant cost of such tour which took about 2 hours I don’t think it was appropriate or if not , certainly overpriced
I am sorry to read that and i don’t understand your complain about the rate of the tour. The tour last 2.30 hours it could have be more but your wife could not walk the stairs of the castle. The rate and duration is not a surprise you knew about it before the tour. (The rate include the entrance to the castle 18€ each visitor plus viator commission 30% i always do the best rate I can) During the tour you can ask me anything you want if something is not clear why don’t you ask during the tour instead of complaining after ? Anyways i am sorry that the tour disapointed you and i am a bit surprised by your rewiev I taugth we had a nice talk during the tour. Best regards Julien
While there were cheaper tour options available, we (my wife and 15 year old daughter) were only in Carcassonne for a short time and wanted to ensure that we learned as much as possible about this beautiful city. We are so happy that we decided to book this tour. Julien was amazing. His stories very good at keeping all of us engaged with historic details and humorous stories.
Thank you very much for i am.glad you enjoyed your time in Carcassonne.
Great detailed history of the castle and peoples who inhabited Carcasonne. Description of the changes in architecture!
Julian was an amazing guide - super knowledgeable and engaging! The castle is beautiful and views were breathtaking, but hearing all the history behind it was the best part. Highly recommend this tour!!
Thank you very much for this review !
We did a 3-hour tour of the city of Carcassonne, including the castle, with Julien. Carcassonne is a very impressive place to visit but you really need a tour guide for the medieval city to come back to life. Julien was able to do exactly that, through this great knowledge of local history and a lot of very interesting anecdotes. His tour is also cleverly set up to see all interesting places in Carcassonne while avoiding the very crowded narrow streets in the center, hence making the tour a more relaxed and pleasant experience. Highly recommended
