Itinerary
Meet your guide Kreuzblume monument in front of the entrance to Cologne Cathedral
Begin at the iconic Cologne Cathedral (viewed from outside only), a stunning Gothic masterpiece that miraculously survived heavy bombings and still bears bullet holes. Continue your journey along Cologne’s quiet cobblestone streets and uncover the poignant Trail of Remembrance.
Learn about the small brass Stolpersteine (Stumbling Stones) that mark the last known homes of Jewish victims, and hear their stories of loss and courage.
See key WWII sites such as the Central Station, Hohenzollern Bridge, and the former exhibition grounds—once linked to the Auschwitz-Buchenwald subcamp—and learn about their roles during wartime. With your Private Guide, you’ll have the freedom to explore at your own pace, ask questions, and focus on the aspects of history that move you most.
Visit to the NS Documentation Center, known as the EL-DE Haus. This former Gestapo headquarters is now a chilling memorial, preserving prison cells and over 1,800 inscriptions carved by prisoners. Walk through rooms where forced laborers, political enemies, and resistance members were held and tortured, and hear how Nazi terror unfolded in Cologne. With a Licensed Guide at your side, you’ll gain a deeper, personal understanding of these harrowing events.

Very comprehensive tour. Despite the very hot weather conditions, our guide, Michael, kept up good energy which helped us stay engaged. His explanations of what we were seeing really added to our understanding of key WWII sites in the city.
I think the price is too high for this activity, we paid more than 340 euros for 3 man in total. Which I think is all too much, actually thought there were some entrance tickets included in the price. It turned out that there was only the guide. 1,300 kr per hour I think is traction.
Not too much walking on this tour, but more than a few stairs. If you have difficulty walking, you might not like this tour. We did not have trouble walking and really enjoyed this tour. We toured the gestapo headquarters, and it was so very interesting! Our tour guide was Marcus, and he was full of knowledge about world war 2 history. He told us many side stories that we had never heard of before. And he also told us of some personal stories from his family that lived through the war. He also told us that he had talked to and had the privilege of meeting survivors of the prison at the bottom of the gestapo headquarters…very interesting!!
Ralph is an excellent tour guide with many years of experience. he did a top-notch job of helping us understand the rich and complicated history of Köln (Cologne). we would highly recommend him, and this tour!
Very informative. William was able to answer all our questions. A very nice tour! Helps to see the city of Cologne.
Dear Barb_T, We’re delighted you had such a positive experience. Learning history while exploring the city firsthand makes for a memorable visit. We hope to guide you again in the future. Regards, Rosotravel Team
We learned a great deal Michael, a highly knowledgeable historian and longtime resident of Koln. We saw some of the few remaining examples of the effects from the war and learned that the city was over 80% destroyed by an infamous RAF bombing attack in 1942. We were especially impressed by the fact that the famous Dom (Cathedral) was able to restored to its present glory. We also learned about how the Jewish people and other opponents of the repressive regime suffered and how they are now being remembered.
Dear William_W, We sincerely appreciate your thoughtful review. It’s fantastic to know that Michael’s historical knowledge helped bring Cologne’s powerful past to life for you. Thanks for sharing your experience! We'd be delighted to host you again on a future Rosotravel adventure. Regards, Rosotravel Team
Ross was excellent. A lot of great history, very informative. Would recommend this tour. Can’t say enough good things. Love the tank battle story.
Thank you, Rondle, for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that Ross’s storytelling and historical insights — especially the tank battle story — made such a great impression. Your recommendation means a lot, and we’d be happy to welcome you on another tour in the future!
Hi Ross, I’m sure it doesn’t come as a surprise our disappointment with today’s tour. A WWII Expert Guide was suppose to dazzle us with personal stories and shocking facts about the Third Reich and Nazi terror - it was more of a walking tour of Cologne’s cathedral, the bridge and a couple of churches. I’m sorry to be so blunt, and you seem like a nice enough guy, but I feel compelled to share “a very disappointed” single star review for yesterdays tour, it was a complete waste of time; we were so much looking forward to a great morning. Viator needs to do a better job to confirm “expert guide” status. Wednesday was better but still well below average - and that’s if I’m being nice. Sorry dude I don’t want to hurt feelings - but feel like direct honesty is required here.
Ralph was phenomenal. He had so much history to share! We really enjoyed the tour. It is well worth the money!
