Coffee Farm Tour from Bogotá – Be a Farmer for a Day

Description
Coffee Farm Tour in Bogotá – From Bean to Brew Escape the city and join a full-day journey into the Andean countryside, where Colombia’s coffee culture comes alive on a small organic farm led by campesina women. Enjoy a campesino-style breakfast and olleta-brewed coffee served by local hosts. Explore 5,000 coffee plants, learn to spot ripe beans, and discover how hand-picking shapes the harvest. The farm’s natural ecosystem—free of fumigation—reveals sustainable practices, including insects that live in rural balance. Join a workshop with a campesina host to grind roasted beans and brew a second cup with a French press. If the season allows, plant your own coffee tree and leave a mark on the land. Savor a Colombian lunch in a serene, open-air setting before returning to Bogotá. This immersive tour blends sustainability, storytelling, and flavor; from seed to sip. Authentic, cozy, and culturally rich, ideal for travelers who value real connections over mass tourism.

Itinerary
️Departure from The Cranky Croc Hostel – Bogotá Our bilingual guide will greet you inside the Cranky Croc Hostel, where your immersive coffee journey begins. After a brief check-in and orientation, guests board a comfortable tourism van for a scenic drive into the Andean countryside. This central hostel is not just a meeting point—it’s the launchpad for a rural adventure into Colombia’s coffee heritage.
Arrival & Farm Breakfast Upon arrival at the rural coffee farm nestled in the Andean hills outside Bogotá, travelers are warmly welcomed by local hosts. The day begins with a traditional Colombian breakfast served in a rustic open-air setting — featuring fresh arepas, eggs, cheese, and locally brewed coffee or hot chocolate. Surrounded by misty hills and birdsong, the farm meal sets the tone for an immersive journey into Colombia’s coffee culture.
Coffee Plantation Walk Travelers are guided through sloping coffee fields in the Andean foothills, learning about the life cycle of the bean — from seed to harvest. The walk invites a deeper connection with nature while offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Visitors may even spot local wildlife along the way.
Workshop & Coffee Tasting Guests dive into a hands-on coffee workshop where they learn about sustainable cultivation, bean selection, and local brewing traditions. The session contrasts two authentic methods: a hearty “campesino-style” brew served in the morning, prepared in a traditional olleta using pre-ground coffee, and later, a barista-style tasting using a French press, with beans freshly ground on-site by the campesina host. This tasting ritual invites guests to savor the diversity of Colombia’s coffee culture in one unforgettable experience.
Lunch at the Coffee Farm After the morning’s hands-on coffee experience, travelers sit down to enjoy a traditional Colombian lunch prepared by local hosts. The meal may include fresh soup, grilled meats or vegetables, rice, plantains, and homemade sauces — all served in a rustic, open-air setting with views of the surrounding hills. It’s not just a meal, it’s a celebration of rural flavors and warm hospitality.
Return Trip to Bogotá – The Cranky Croc Hostel After lunch and closing activities at the coffee farm, guests board the van once more for the return journey to Bogotá. The drive offers one last look at Colombia’s countryside and a chance to reflect on the day’s immersive experience. Drop-off is at The Cranky Croc Hostel.

I loved the experience; if you like the countryside, you will enjoy it a lot. I had a great time because the coffee connected me with something of ours... it's incredible, but as Colombians, we don't know much. I now understand what good quality coffee is. Overall, everything was very well coordinated; I am very grateful to our guide Elizabeth and to all the people from the finca la campesina, as well as to a special group made up of Michael, Jlo, and Rihanna!!

I had an amazing experience on my second tour in one month with True Colombia Experiences — this time visiting the beautiful coffee region of Choachí for the Coffee Farm Tour at La Campesina. My first tour with them was La Chorrera Falls, and once again the experience exceeded expectations. A huge thank you to our wonderful guide, Natalia, and our driver (apologies, I forgot his beautiful name), who made the day so enjoyable, welcoming, and seamless from beginning to end (in both Spanish and English). At La Campesina, the owner Mari gave us a fascinating and authentic tour of the coffee farm, explaining every stage of the process — from planting and picking the coffee beans to fermenting, washing, and drying them. It was incredible to learn how detailed, time-sensitive, and caring the entire process is before coffee finally reaches your cup each day. The food throughout the day was also fantastic. We enjoyed a delicious traditional breakfast with a tamale, fresh fruit, and hard boiled egg. Lunch included vegetarian beans, rice, potatoes, and salad, or chicken with Colombia’s famous Ajiaco Soup. After lunch, we participated in an educational and enjoyable coffee class and tasting led by one of the longtime coffee farm experts with seven years of experience (apologies, I forgot her name as well). Everyone even left with a fun souvenir after the coffee quiz — a bag of La Campesina coffee! This was truly a memorable experience full of learning, culture, beautiful scenery, delicious food, and wonderful people. Muchísimas gracias to the La Campesina team and the True Colombian Experiences team!
Dear Jill, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review; it truly means a lot to our entire team. We’re incredibly happy to know that this was your second experience with us in such a short time, and that both La Chorrera Falls and the Coffee Farm Tour in Choachí exceeded your expectations once again. That kind of trust is the biggest compliment we can receive. A special thank you for highlighting Natalia, who will be thrilled to read your words, as well as our driver and the amazing team at La Campesina. Mari and the farm team put so much heart into sharing the real story behind Colombian coffee, and it’s wonderful to hear how meaningful and eye‑opening that experience was for you; from the farming process to the tasting and, of course, the delicious food along the way. We’re especially glad you enjoyed the cultural depth of the day, the meals, the coffee workshop, and the little details like the souvenir coffee; those moments are exactly what we aim to create: authentic, educational, and human experiences. Thank you again for choosing and trusting The True Colombian Experience. We would love to welcome you back anytime; there’s always more Colombia to discover 😊 Warm regards

This was the most incredible experience. We really learnt what goes into our cup of coffee. On arrival we were given a hearty breakfast and a small lesson about the farm. We then went walking through the lifecycle of the coffee. We saw immature plants, learnt how coffee is collected, collected our own coffee berries. We saw how they are washed and dried. We were the given a tasting of the farms coffee and a small sample to take away. It was an amazing day and treat for a coffee lover
