The visit was very informative, and the family was very kind; Oscar was very helpful.
We spent 10 days in Medellin and Jardin and this was my favorite thing we did during our vacation! This tour was INCREDIBLE. Our guide, Oscar, was so warm and kind and helpful. He did a great job of engaging our kids in the tour and conversation and made it all really accessible and fun. We speak Spanish so we did our tour in Spanish but his English was also quite good so I think either is an option. We drove about 1.5 hours to this beautiful family owned finca where Sandra and Oscar led us on a chocolate making journey. We got to learn about the different types of cacao plants, pick the fruit, scrape out and taste the seeds, then we learned about the process to go from seed to chocolate bar. My kids loved grinding the chocolate into powder themselves, choosing their flavors/ingredients to mix in and making their own chocolates. The setting is serene and beautiful and the family was very kind and welcoming. I 100% recommend!
I did not know what to expect when I signed up. I felt it would be interesting to learn the process of making chocolate. It was much more than that. I had Oscar as my guide. He was awesome, explaining regions and history on our drive up. When at the location which is extremely beautiful we met with the family that runs the farm. They were welcoming and friendly and it was such an organic experience. Picking the Cocao, seeing and experiencing the process. Being part of the process. I absolutely loved this. The chocolate was phenomenal. By the time you’re done it’s sad leaving. You really feel like family.
Excellent tour, very informative and with very nice people. Prepare for the hill 🙂.
Amazing private tour. Guide spoke excellent English. They pick you up at your hotel. Drive about 50 mins from city to the countryside and go in very steep hills to get to the finca(country farm). Once there you will be greeted by the family and farm dogs running cacao farm. They will provide special boots. They will walk you around the cacao farm and explain the various types of cacao they grow. You will pick cacao directly from the tree. You then get to taste the fruit itself. And learn about the fermentation process. Roast and then deshell the seeds. They will let you sample the cacao percentages. We chose 100%. You will then grind it and get to mold your own chocolate and can add ingredients to your liking. We added cinnamon, ginger, powdered milk, salt etc. they will put in freezer to set. Then you get drink fresh hoy chocolate with warm bread. It’s hard to explain just how beautiful of an experience it is to enjoy this light meal while bird watching and seeing the majestic Mountain Views. In addition to taking home the chocolates you made. You can purchase the best grade caca for crazy cheap money 20-40k Colombian pesos. About 5-10 American dollars. I normally pay 60-100 in the states for good quality cacao. It is labeled so you can bring it home.this is way better than what’s available back home.
An excellent tour, to learn more about Colombian culture, in this case with cocoa. The guide Oscar and the owner of the Sandra estate have been most friendly and open, making us feel at home.
Went on a chocolate tour on a farm high in the mountains north of Medellin. Tour guide (Oscar) was excellent, giving us history of a lot of the sights on the way, excellent English and kept us entertained. Tour was just me and my wife but Oscar and the people at the farm made us feel like friends. Cost was quite reasonable, especially given the details and personal touch of the tour. The location itself was amazing - just the variety of plants, fruits, flowers, birds... It would have been worth it just for that! The insight into how chocolate is made was fascinating with hands-on every step of the process. Would go again in a heartbeat! Had a 5 out of 5 time, no complaints! (Other than that I'll never be able to be satisfied with Hershey's chocolate again! ;) )
The chocolate tour was fantastic. We experienced the whole process of chocolate making in a super peaceful, welcoming environment. We also saw S learned about other plants /fruits and birds! Oscar was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and accommodating.
Very informative and authentic down home country farm. The owners were very friendly, and showed all fruit trees, coffee plants, and three different chocolate varieties. Also, the farm was picturesque with many different flowers. Of course, you could not ask for a better guide.
Everything was perfectly done. Will recommend to family and friends!! All the guides were very knowledgeable and professional.
