Chichicastenango and Lake Atitlan: From Traditions to Paradise

Description
The tour of the Guatemalan highlands is a unique contrast of nature and culture. Our first point to visit will be the Chichicastenango craft market, which is only installed on Thursdays and Sundays. In this place we will know the daily living of the Quiche Maya and we will have time to make purchases of crafts, a very important part of the experience. In the afternoon, the visit continues in the town of Panajachel, where we will have lunch and enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful Lake Atitlan, formed more than 85,000 years ago and currently guarded by three imposing volcanoes. At the end, the return to Guatemala City begins.

The population of Chichicastenango is a living example of K’iche Mayan cultural resistance, where tradition, religion and commerce intertwine in an environment that attracts both researchers and tourists. Its identity is reflected in language, clothing, ceremonies and community life, making it a cultural epicenter of Guatemala.
The Church of Santo Tomas in Chichicastenango is one of the oldest colonial temples in Guatemala, built in the 16th century and famous for its religious syncretism, where Catholic rituals and Mayan ceremonies coexist. It is in this temple that the original manuscript of the Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the K’iche Maya, was found
The Chichicastenango Market is known for its cute colors, market days are usually on Thursdays and Sundays where the variety of items and merchandise of hundreds of colors increases. It is located in front of the central church in the main square of the municipality, with sale of clay crafts, typical fabrics, fruits, vegetables and more.
Located in the Guatemalan highlands, Lake Atitlan is of volcanic origin and surrounded by three volcanoes. On this visit you will have the opportunity to take in an unforgettable panorama of the most beautiful lake in the world.

It is very interesting to experience the culture of the town and the guide's explanations were punctual, with good transportation and timing. You should wear comfortable shoes, a cap, and a willingness to walk. Look for prices in the market.
Vet responsable and great communication. Brian was an amazing driver and took us to meet a tourist guide who gave us an amazing tour of the market and churches, then later at Panajachel he was very patient and let me stop in every colorful vendor on our way to our destinations. I recommend it!
Thank you so much for your review.
Lots of road and practically no time just to see a market and a lake I practically didn’t enjoy my day touristic place only
Hola Nathalie. Agradecemos tu reseña. Lamentablemente el día de ayer hubo caos vehicular por lo que el tráfico afectó el tiempo de recorrido en el tour, sin embargo, estas situaciones son ajenas a nuestro servicio.
Horrible communication. They will cancel last minute without any communication. They also do not answer their phones. Save your money, time, and energy. Do not book!!!
The lake is beautiful, warm and with an incredible view. Chichicastenango is a sociological experience. Mayan culture unites with Christianity in the same place (church, old Mayan temple) the cemetery is totally colorful
My guide Eloida was absolutely fantastic. Spent a wonderful day at the Chichicastenango marketplace. Unfortunately rain stopped our visit to Ixichme, but it was still definitely worth the trip.
