Set in the middle of lush green vegetation, this unique geological oddity is one of those amazing creations of nature that just make you go “Wow”. It is a relatively big area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colors approximately red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple & yellow. And what is more fascinating is the fact that if you mix the colored earth together, they'll eventually settle into separate layers. You may also be puzzled as the colors might play tricks on you & may appear to be shadows There is also a Tortoise Park & Souvenir Shop offering an array of memorabilia, including local products from Chamarel while the Coffee shop is a happy cafe experience.

An excellent tour booked via GetYourGuide to see some of the landmarks of South West Mauritius. Driver Keni was excellent throughout.
Our driver/guide Sameer was friendly and informative about Mauritius past and present and didn't hurry us at all throughout the day. He also offered to stop at any time for photos. A very good tour, the optional lunch was delicious.
Refreshing from a beautiful viewpoint
Kevin was very knowledgeable about the places he took me to. And at the end of the tour we finished up at the fruit and veg markets in Port Louis. Time was a little short as I didn’t want to miss the cruise ship and would have like to see some other sites.
A wonderful day with approximately six stops. A great tour guide (Keni?) who was tremendous and very knowledgeable in his craft. Visiting off-peak during their winter season had many advantages as these historical places of interest were not overcrowded.
Kevin was a very nice guide. We did see all items on the itinerary. However, it would have been nice if like other guides he accompanied us at the sites, so we had the relevant information. There was just 1 large bottle of water between 4 of us and no cups so we could share. Kevin did select a restuarnt for lunch which we all enjoyed Unfortuneately, the car was fairly dirty on the inside. It was difficult to find the attachment down the side of the seat for the middle rear seat belt. Kevin , did, on several occasions drive very fast, throwing us around a bit, whilst he was looking at his phone.
Our private tour guide Sameer was a pleasure to spend the day alongside. He was very informative, and went out of his way to make sure we experienced as much of the island's history as we could in a 1 day tour. It is not mentioned specifically in the tour itinerary, but there was a sit-down lunch stop at a restaurant (additional expense on-own). There were also so vendors set up at one of the stops, who we were advised were open to bartering. Most of the stops, Sameer waited for us at the car, so we were on our own at the tour locations and lunch. He did join us when we visited the tortoises at Chamarel. He gave us a good preview of what we would see while driving, then answered any questions when we returned to the car. It worked for us, but we did see some other guides escorting their guests at their stops. If that is important to you, you should confirm the guide's level of involvement when booking. We liked that he stayed with our personal belongings at the car, and did not have to bring everything with us at the shorter stops. NOTE: we had perfect timing for the start of an English language tour at the Rum distillery, but do note this can be a bottleneck in your day...the tours only go out about every 20 minutes.
Sameer was an excellent guide. We visited all the places on the itinerary plus extra gorgeous viewing spots. We paid to enter chamarel and sameer told us about the tortoise. There are toilets and cafe available here. The rhumerie was beautiful and you have the choice of 14 rum tasting. Also toilets and food available here. Sameer’s knowledge of the island was fantastic. He was very enthusiastic. Didn’t feel rushed at any point. Thank you for a great day. Highly recommend 😎.
A magnificent waterfall to discover, beautiful discoveries of the different places: making of rum and its tasting in a park very well decorated and sported. We were well guided and welcomed. A nice encounter with giant turtles for our teenagers.
The tour was extremely informative about the history and geography of Mauritius and it was well paced. The driver was very pleasant and had a lot of knowledge about his island. In fact we booked him for follow up tour of the north part of the island.
