Central Budapest: Small Group Walking Food Tour with Drinks

Description
You might as well call Budapest “Food-a-pest” because the Hungarian capital is buzzing with delicious restaurants, and on this priority access food tour, we'll help you eat like a local, no planning required. The tour starts at an old synagogue, as much of Hungarian cuisine is heavily influenced by Jewish culture and tradition. You'll get the best of both worlds when it comes to the city’s gastronomic scene, from local secrets to high-end spots. First, you’ll try delicious street food like traditional Hungarian soup and Lángos, a deep-fried flatbread, and wash it down with local Dreher beer. After soaking in the eccentric atmosphere of the city’s party streets, we'll head to fancier spots for a sit-down meal. Taste Hungarian classics like chicken paprikash, a Hungarian comfort food with braised chicken and paprika, and a shot of Pálinka. We'll end the tour with sweet wine from Tokaji, Hungary’s famed wine region, and somlói, a trifle cake with custard.

Hungarian cuisine carries rich traces of Jewish heritage, reflecting centuries of resilience and tradition. To explore this cultural connection, our tour kicks off at a synagogue, where an expert guide will give a brief introduction before the flavours of Budapest unfold.
Next, we’ll dive deeper into Jewish influences on Hungarian cuisine as we wander through District 7, a historic Jewish neighbourhood home to Europe’s largest synagogue. Today, it buzzes with vibrant nightlife, dotted with famous “ruin bars” and trendy restaurants—Instagram-worthy spots that still honour the area’s Jewish roots. Your local guide will lead you through the streets, sharing the history and its connection to Hungarian flavours, before you sample authentic street food. No need for utensils, just bring curiosity and an appetite! You’ll eat like a local on the go before settling in for a few sit-down tastings.

Come hungry and ready to try some local foods! There is a lot of walking of course but sometimes it’s a bit fast so you may struggles to keep up.
Superb experience with Agnes, who allowed us to discover some local specialties in generous but not excessive portions, so we could savor each one of them. I highly recommend it!
Agnes was a great host but we got cheap small dishes for an expensive price.
Great guide, Agnes. Although the total tour price seemed expensive for the amount of food we got overall. Chicken paprikash which was the main course was a tiny portion.
Plenty food so arrive hungry. Kitti was a brilliant guide - so enthusiastic and her English was great
The food and drink were great and local. I found one dish bland, but appreciated having the authentic version. I was well accommodated as a vegetarian. Our guide, Kelly, was friendly and knowledgeable. She is both Hungarian and American, speaking fluently in both English and Hungarian. My only complaint is that with twenty people, this was hardly a small group, but it was still a very good time. I am six foot and eat a fair amount. I was not stuffed as I sometimes am at the end of a food tour, but had had plenty to eat. My spouse, Who eats less, had to be careful not to overdo it.
Thank you, Andrew! We're delighted you enjoyed the Central Budapest Food Tour with Kelly. We're glad you appreciated the authentic local food, drinks, and vegetarian-friendly options, and that Kelly's knowledge and friendly approach made the experience enjoyable. We also appreciate your feedback about the group size and will keep it in mind. We hope to welcome you back to Budapest soon!
We arrived in Hungary for a short visit. My sister booked this food tour for our family to do while we are here and it was fantastic. Our tour guide, Peter, was very knowledgeable and personable. He taught us a lot of interesting facts about Hungary, some words to use while we are here, and brought us to some great spots to try some delicious food. I highly recommend doing this tour if you're in the area!! This was the highlight of my entire trip!!

The tour guide was wonderful. She was very informative and had a great personality who made the tour very enjoyable. The only thing I would mention is that if you were interested in going inside a synagogue, do not go on a Saturday.
This walking food tour was amazing. Eszti was an excellent guide who looked after everyone’s dietary needs, explained all the food and drinks to us, and created a really warm vibe for the group.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're so glad you enjoyed the food tour with Eszti and appreciated her care, knowledge, and warm approach. We hope to welcome you back for another Budapest adventure soon!
Our group of 5 enjoyed a great food tour with our guide, Peter. Local food and drink, mixed with culture and history and friendly group, what could be better? The 4 food stops were well thought out and well spaced and left us very satisfied.
