Definitely the pick of the fields around Queenstown. The bus trip up & down the hill could have been scary, but our driver ( Casey ) was both skillful & responsible. The hire gear was quite good quality & the lift lines acceptable. Our only complaint was that the upstairs restaurant did not offer a full menu ( better choice of food downstairs in the bistro ) However it is very comfortable & has a lovely view of the slopes. Considering there had been no snow for over a week, the runs were in good condition. It started to snow just as we were leaving the mountain. Such a pity we were booked to return to Australia the next day.
Thank you for this wonderful review and feedback. If only you could've stayed one more week!
This is probably the most versatile field in NZ for all levels of ability. Therein lies the biggest problem for 2022 Season. 20 minute queues every day of the week (late August) and not just weekends. We purchased a 5 day pass but by day 3 we decided to search further afield in South Canterbury as we were totally over the crowds. The terrain handles the crowd the lifts do not. Even with a 2+ hour drive from Wanaka we found fields that were totally devoid of lift queues of more than 3 people. Victim of it's own success? Possibly, Treble Cone is less frenetic but not a field for novices and in late Aug 22 prone to ice on thje ungroomed areas.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback Anthony. The winter season has proven to be a busy one this year, with beautiful weather and a lot of visitors. Managing the number and flow of guests is on the top of our priority list for next season to ensure our guests have an epic experience on the mountain.
The facilities are awesome! But the hire staff are way below average. They could not care less about the customer satisfaction. They do not want to help at all, EXCEPT for a guy called Matias. He was great. The only one willing to help. The other ones make you feel like you are interrupting their activities which appear to be: standing around looking flat and miserable and rolling their eyes at customers. I've experienced some shockingly poor service in my life but THIS was just too much of unprofessionalism. Please try to find some people that really want to work in there. Or that could at least pretend.
Blue ski day. Excellent skiing. Good to go outside of school holidays, very small queues if any. Snow conditions were excellent. Bus ride up from the bottom car park was good value at $10 return.
Thanks so much for your review, Diver764965! We're stoked you had a great time up here. Hope to see you back up here soon :)
Great boots and skis from the rental team, the day pass for the lifts is included and very reasonable
Thanks heaps for your review, jacci6! Hope to see you back up here again soon :)
Two years on from our first time at Cardrona, and we were wondering if it would live up to the memory. Boy did it what! Eli was an amazing teacher for both my morning and afternoon lessons, the snow conditions were good. While it was busy, queue management at the bottom of the chondola was smooth. The food was good, Mr6 loved Kids Club and had great development in his skiing. Will definitely be back.
I didn't actually make it to Cardrona. I prepaid (non-refundable) lift passes for my family of 4 - but my wife has had a flare-up of a pre-existing medicl problem, so we have cancelled our trip. Cardrona staff tried (and succeeded) quite hard to get me a refund, with the aid of a medical certificate. I am really happy with the assistance their staff provided, and their flexibility in fully refunding me. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your lovely feeedback, Steve! Hope your wife feels better soon :) Sending lots of love from the team at Cardrona <3
WOW! Had THE best day skiing up at Cardrona. I've been to quite a few mountains in New Zealand but Cardrona is just simply the best. Really good quality snow, I mean the whole experience was just great. Took a ski lesson even though I've been skiing for a few years but everyone recommended it, and I was so happy! Massive shout out to Joe Harrison who taught me so much, what a legend!! Cardrona - you left a big smile on my lips for a long time. Thanks!
What an awesome review, Tilda! We're so stoked you had such an awesome time up here - we've passed your kind words on to Joe too :) Please come back and see us again!!
Drove up early in the morning, easy hire of ski package which had been paid for and ordered the day before in Wanaka at their ski shop. Rental guys really helpful. No real queues for lifts. Great snow. Good range of slopes unless you only want to bomb down black runs. The only down side were the queues in the noodle bar which seemed to take for ever. But good food. Loved the drinks hut at the top of the McDougal lift. Definitely return.
Hey Team Miller! Cheers for the review, stoked to hear you had a such a sick time! Noodle bar does get busy during prime lunch time hours, a good option is to go earlier or later to beat the queues. See you soon!
Very good service and good equipment. Very professionally run business. No complaints at all from me.
Hey Coldb2018, Sounds like you had an awesome time, hope to see you soon!
