The Goreme Open-Air Museum features an extensive monastic complex carved directly into the soft volcanic rock, including ancient churches, kitchens, wineries, storerooms, and living spaces once inhabited by Anatolian Christians. With its unique architectural details and beautifully preserved frescoes, the site offers a vivid window into early Christian life in Cappadocia. Its cultural and historical significance has earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Tokalı Church (Buckle Church) in the Göreme Open Air Museum is considered one of the most beautiful of the Cappadocian cave churches. Its interior boasts some of the most outstanding frescoes, notable for their theological and artistic significance. The church is part of a larger complex that includes four churches and a hermitage, all dating back to the 9th century. Once the most famous church in the region, it remains one of the most impressive churches in the area today.
The entire town is dominated by the 90-metre-high (300 ft) rock-castle in the centre of the town, which is called Sivrikoya by the inhabitants. The most famous historical feature of Avanos, which is still relevant and very visible today, is its production of earthenware pottery; it is also the most economic activity in the town. The ceramic trade in this district and its countless pottery factories date right back to the Hittites, and the ceramic clay from the red silt of the Kizilirmak has always been used.

Initially looked like an excellent offer. It has a detailed itinerary describing all the places to be visited and as a last point - the camel safari at the end of the day. This camel safari was the most attractive for me and my friends as this is something absolutely new for us. I did the booking so to make it as a surprise for them. Only the one to be surprised was me. When the day came we were picked up as arranged- the guide Bayram had an excellent English and attitude. Then he started on the program for the day and no safari was mentioned at all! I went to him to ask about it but he knew nothing about a safari. I started writing and calling the phone given by viator. At the end I was told i could have the safari at 16:00 o'clock, but had to be at the spot at 15:00. This meant my friends and me had to give up the second half of the day trip - visit to Goreme open air museum and then visit to pottery - which were part of the package I paid for. So at the end I did not received the full package that I expected, booked and paid for in advance. All the local guides and guys were very nice but the organization by Viator or Local company were extremely poor. This should be monitored by Viator as it is bad advertisement ofr them as company.
This tour is done by Pupa Travel. Transportation, great! It was a new and comfortable ride with USB ports to charge your electronics. The guide was very helpful explaining every stop. The lunch was very good as well. But the best of the tour, it's that everything was included except for the souvenirs.
