Tour cancelled by operator late - difficulty securing a refund

I was very much looking forward to this experience, and given that a signficiant weather system was moving north of Cairns, I reached out 2 days in advance to see if they still expected to operate. I did not get any answer for two days and a final answer about 4 hours before our tour - that it would be cancelled; seems like winds damaged some of their equipment. I was assured that a refund would be immediately issued. After several business days I reached out again, as nothing had posted to my account and got no response. After several more days, I involved Tripadvisor, that immediately went to work on my behalf and my refund was arranged with 24 hours. So, this outfit has lovely reviews - it seems that when it works, it works well. But, when it's not going well, they were nonresponsive and needed coaxing from the booking agency in order to complete a refund. Just be informed as you choose, and I would definitely book them through Tripadvisor or Viator, rather than directly, so that you have some support on your side if you don't get what you wanted from your experience.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologise for your experience. The severe weather event created unexpected operational challenges, and we regret that our communication and refund process did not meet the standard we aim to provide. This is not the experience we want for any guest. We appreciate your patience and your comments, which help us improve our systems and service moving forward.

A special, calm, magical evening

A lovely relaxing way to see the Cairns Inlet and get insight into our history here. Coming back into Cairns after sunset with all the lights at high tide was very special. It was great to hear from the indigenous guides and see the conservation work they have been doing.

A must do experience in Cairns!

We loved the sunset cruise with Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours! Thanks to Captain Dale and the team of tour guides, we have learned so much about local aborigines customs, traditions and the essential (and many) roles that mangroves are playing in this area. The sunset from the water was amazing and accessing an indigenous territory was a real privilege. We will recommend this tour to everyone looking for an intimate and authentic experience, we felt super welcomed and we had some good banters too. We will be back to renew our experience with them.

A Profound and Peaceful Cultural Experience

I would not hesitate to do this tour again either with family & friends visiting Cairns or again with my husband & work colleagues This tour was far more than just a scenic sunset cruise—it was a deeply moving cultural journey. From the moment we stepped aboard, the Mandingalbay team welcomed us with warmth and authenticity. The stories shared about Country, culture, and connection were powerful and respectfully delivered, offering insights that you simply won’t find anywhere else.. Its an amazing experience...Keep up the great work guys!!

Love of country

Our guides were great. Sharing their love of country and culture. We cruised into the indigenous protected area. And were welcomed with smoking ceremony and stories of their grandfathers. Hunting artefacts and yummy finger food. Even saw a green tree frog. Wonderful.

Mandingalbay night experience

It was a great experience. Only wish I'd that it would have lasted longer! Highly recommend. It was so cool to learn and be out in the water at night. Would love to do the other experiences offered some day.
