Itinerary
You will see the wall art of west Belfast murals the peace wall and some memorial gardens
Your Belfast Murals Tour begins in the Shankill Road area of Belfast which is (Protestant/British), where your Black Taxi Cab driver will explain a detailed history of the area. We begin in 1690, when William of orange arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. You will go for a short walk around the area, where your black taxi cab driver will explain the loyalist murals Belfast has in the area and what they represent. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the Belfast murals.
The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Nationalist) and Protestant (Unionist) populations in Belfast. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of violence in 1969 in Northern Ireland. They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature, they were built higher, longer, and made permanent and are still here today. The peace walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
You will visit Clonard Martyrs Memorial garden in Bombay Street in the black taxi cab tour. Bombay Street in Belfast is where some say the modern troubles began when Catholics were burnt out of their homes. This is also where the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this garden will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists. The next stop on the tour will be Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of one of the most iconic Falls Road murals of the Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of Bobby Sands and the Irish hunger strike in the Maze Prison in 1981.
The final stop will be the International Wall, where you will see a variety of different murals in Belfast. The murals have a general theme of ‘highlighting oppression’ – from the race riots in America in 1969 to current events in Palestine.

This was the highlight of our trip to Belfast and I would highly recommend this tour.
We had an excellent tour. Our guide was very even handed, not trying to tell the stories from just one point of view. I found it really eye-opening. I’d assumed that since it had been 30 years since the end of the conflict that this was to be about history, but in fact the “history” is really still part of everyone’s lives. I learned a lot.
This was an incredible tour with Danny. A wonderful insight into a very complex powderkeg. The tour is incredibly insightful with words of wisdom from the tour guide of personal experience. I would highly recommend this tour
Excellent, well-informed tour.
Stevey Mac was an excellent driver. Having lived through the troubles, he had both expertise and experience. He explained everything and answered all of our questions. Just be ready with cash in British pounds to pay the driver at the end. Not all drivers have card readers.
Our guide was Danny. He gave us an excellent tour of the neighborhoods. His story telling was amazing and connects The Troubles to the events today. Well worth the time and money!
Kikran was our driver and guide. He did a fantastic job teaching us about the history of the conflicts in Northern Ireland and was a safe driver in a comfortable vehicle. The subject was a difficult one and he tried his best to cover both sides fairly. One disappointment was when he made a negative comment about the President of our country. We were paying him for his knowledge about his country, not for his opinion of ours. I would like to say I would say that no matter who our President was because like him or not, a majority of our citizens voted for whoever is in office. My concern is that when he makes a comment like that at the beginning of a tour, the audience might quit listening. He has a lot of good history to share, and he shouldn't risk offending his audience and making them less likely to pay attention to what he has to say.
Spent an excellent time with Brad today who gave us a first hand understanding of the background to the Troubles and the murals, memorials and walls around Belfast. It was a very moving tour and opened our eyes to the continued tensions. Thanks for a great tour.

Overall excellent tour!! From the moment of getting to the pick up point to the end of the tour everyone was friendly, polite and helpful. Met our driver ‘Tucker’ who was absolutely brilliant, had great ‘Craic’, was mega informative and super engaging. Could have listened to his knowledge and experiences all day long!! He was willing to answer questions and gave great answers, could tell he wasn’t biased in any way, giving views from both sides. He took us to a variety of the sites of the tour and mixed it up between driving tours and some places stopped to get out for a closer look. We did the tour in a very nice Mercedes van, lovely bit of air conditioning in there. Throughout the tour the whole group felt safe, completely and utterly engaged in what our tour guide was telling us. Can’t recommend this tour enough, really made my first visit to Belfast, thank you to Tucker!!
