Description

A trip to an unknown Sicily, unknown to the majority of tourists, away from the usual tourist spot. A true Sicily to discover and enjoy! The small village of Buscemi, with the houses of the historical center faithfully restored as they were more than a century ago, to let you experience a leap back in time to understand how life took place at that time. Palazzolo Acreide, located in the Sicilian hinterland, in the middle of Iblei mountains. To reach it, you must travel a very beautiful landscape with panoramic views completely different from those that can be seen along the coast. The town is enchanting, with some of the most beautiful baroque churches of Sicily, so much that it was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2002. Marzamemi is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, where everything smells of the sea between old stone houses, wooden boats and picturesque views. The perfect place where to taste the authentic flavors of the Mediterranean sea.

From ancient relics to lunch by the sea: perfecto!

We enjoyed Buscemi and seeing what life was like for people there. And it was beautiful in Marzamemi. The weather was perfect for our lunch by the sea.

Terrific and unusual tour, loved it !

Three very different locations visited in unknown parts of Sicily for tourists. First up Buscemi which is like a village frozen in time from a 100 years ago. They have cleverly preserved original examples of how they made wine, farmed the land, lived, fixed equipment etc. Around 12 different sites visited so plenty of time to walk this lovely village in the sunshine, our tour guide was on hand to clarify the descriptions given by the local city hall guide.- overall just brilliant. Onto Palazzolo Acredide next where there was a self-guided tour of ancient ruins from 3BC- very well preserved and includes a stretch of Roman road as well. Well worth the visit. Into the main town which is beautiful and hols great example of baroque style buildings. Also stopped off for a lunch in a local pattessiere which was cheap and good quality. Our final stop was to Marzamemi, a very old but picturesque sea-side resort that is popular with Sicilians. What makes this additionally interesting is the preserved sheds from the old days where they fished and prepared Tuna over a 6 week summer period. A really good day, our guide Guiseppe was not only knowledgeable but also got the balance right in terms of talking and not - I tend to shy away from tours when the guide is incessantly talking at you. The car was executive level so it really was the only way to travel !
