The promise of this tour is excellent, visiting some of the best places accessible on a daytrip from Budapest. The van was clean and comfortable and our guide was personable and a good driver. Sadly, the information we were given at the various sites was a bit lacking in context and was more ‘fun facts’ than history based. Even though we decided not to go all the way to Esztergom, we felt rushed through the parts we actually did. The medieval Castle in Visegrád is interesting and beautiful, and the town of Szentendre very picturesque. Lunch was at best average food. The extra of visiting the restaurants 250 years old wine cellar was a definite bonus!
Impressive and well-managed.
It was a wonderful full day visiting religious, historical and artistic sites. Beautiful Cathedral, historical fortress and quaint artistic town. Nice lunch in local restaurant. The guide was fabulous! Knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this tour.
Our guide, Zsuzsa was amazing! Her passion for Hungarian history and culture came through in every narrative that she told, exemplifying love of Magyarország. Without reservation, I recommend this tour!
Extremely satisfying. We found Susan quite informative and she helped us with lots of local information. The lunch was superb and we had a great locally flavoured food. Susan was quite patient and answered all our queries without any hesitation.
Susan is incredibly knowledgeable and went down any paths we wanted to pursue as we learned more about places and history. Her flexiblity and friendliness made the tour feel truly personlized.
Zsofia (Sophia). Was a high energy positive personality and gave a great tour up through the Danube bend. We spent the majority of time driving in her car to various places starting with Pest and then moving over to Budapest. She offered a detailed explanation at each site and gave us Hungarian lessons along the way. We stopped and walked at several locations including Visagrad (and the castle), to Esztergom and the stunning basilica, I to Slovakia, to the lovely village of Szentendrei You can tell she had done this for decades as she has a mental script of everything and continues to talk all through driving in the all the way up the country side. The drive up is pleasant but it is a tad longer trip than some people would want. As an American, the long history of the Hungarians and all the occupations such as the Romans, the Ottoman Turks, the Hapsburg dynasty, Austria Hungarian empire, the Nazis, the Soviets, the long period of communism and then the transition to capitalism is fascinating!! Zsofia is a true Hungarian and loves to talk about her country. It is probably not for everyone as, like I stated she is high energy and forward, which would probably not work for some subdued, less adventurous Americans, but it worked for us!! The only negative would be the length of the trip (Hungarian traffic is quite unpredictable) as you may only have a few day budget and it might take away from some activities/sites in Budapest.
Excellent opportunity to view areas outside of Budapest. Susan was a great guide providing all sorts of historical background on these three sites as well as safely driving and guiding us.
Susan was by far the most knowledgeable travel guide we ever experienced. She is a walking encyclopedia for all historical events not just our tour related. It was a very worthwhile experience showing the Danube bend towns/attractions along with key attractions in Budapest. Very enriching experience.
Seeing the countryside was a wonderful contrast to the Budapest city tour. The cathedral, castle, and quaint towns were a refreshing change. Nora was an exceptional tour guide. We highly recommend this tour!
