Borobudur Sunrise from setumbu Hill , Merapi Volcano & Prambanan Full Day Tour

It was an amazing experience. Got to see mount merapi, borobudur temple, and prambanan temple. Special shoutout to our driver Mr. Himawan. He is knowledgeable and goes the extra miles arranged the tours well with guides as well for the prambanan along with recommended restaurants and spot to stop for snacks. Would recommend highly.

Fery was a really excellent guide and was so pleasant to spend the day with. You can ask him anything at all and he will have information for you. As a guide driver hybrid, he will not always accompany you at all of the stops but it is nice to have alone time over the course of such a long day. We started by viewing the sunrise between two volcanoes (one of them being Merapi) with borobudor in the far distance. Borobudor may look as small as a thumbtack from that location, but it will be quite a site to behold up close. Before heading to Borobudor we stopped at a monstery which was really tranquil and Fery decribed the story of Buddha's life to us while showing us the accompanying engravings. The peacefulness of that space so early in the morning was one of my favorite parts. At borobudor you must change into provided sandals to help protect the structure and you will be appointed a guide who takes you with a small group. The climb can have some larger and steeper steps but is overall easy and they will provide you with a small water. The sun will be unrelenting and it is a must to have spf and sunglasses and loose clothing. Some people will be selling uv umbrellas but a hat should be sufficient. The jeep excursion to view mount merapi is in the afternoon where it will likely be obscures by cloud cover. It is usually only clear in the early mornings. It was fascinating to see a home and its contents affected by hot steam from an eruption and important to talk about the devastation that comes with large scale eruptions. We were then given a choice to go see a no longer usable bunker or have an off roading experience with some water involved and we opted for the bunker. Overall the visit to Merapi seemed commercialized but our driver for the jeep was excellent and earnestly wanted to make sure we were enjoying things. We stopped to get lunch near prambanan after and were seated with a nice river view. Prambanan was quite stunning and Fery was our guide for this portion of the trip as we decided not to hire a local guide. He described everything perfectly and gave us as much information as we needed. Entering the temples is quite crowded and the heat gets trapped in the chambers, but lines move quickly. The sun set was really lovely and a great way to end the day. While speaking to Fery, he knew that I had an interest in the traditional puppets and he made a point of finding puppets for me to look at and really made the tour feel personal.

Had a great time looking at the 2 temple complexes with a short 4x4 trip in the middle. Special mention to Matthias, he was very friendly, arrived early and incredibly knowledgeable about the temples and gave us lots of tips and advice for the rest of our holiday in Indonesia! Would recommend.

We talked about everything including the history and culture of Jogja. He’s gracious, knowledgeable, accommodating, generous. Upon my request he stopped to buy local snacks and he paid in advance for me since I did not have enough rupiahs on me. He’s also a foodie like me and took to Bebek Indra for a marvelous late lunch. He’s as memorable as Borobudur.

This tour is awesome! If you’re a traveler that enjoys doing the most you can with the time you have, this is the one for you! You’ll have time to fully experience a gorgeous sunrise at Borobudur, off-road on a Jeep through the Merapi area, and tour the Prambanan temples. Each area offered unique sights, a plethora of information, and well-organized tours with many great photo opportunities. Maxi was a steady, amazing guide throughout our entire journey. He always attended to our interests, was able to answer any questions we had about the areas we visited, and went out of his way to accommodate any requests we had. I’d absolutely recommend this tour!

We had SO, SO, SO much fun on this tour! Yes, waking up at 2:20 AM for the excursion was brutal at first, but we ended up having the best day ever. The biggest highlight was our tour guide, Maxi. The company reached out to us the day before to confirm our pickup spot, but Maxi was also incredibly communicative and even showed up 20 minutes early. He was friendly, spoke great English, was funny, and made us feel so incredibly safe. He was cracking jokes with us the whole time, checked if we needed anything, and always walked us through the plan, what we would need, and where and when to meet. He also made stops along the route whenever we wanted a snack or something to drink, got us bottled water on his own, took amazing photos, and even served as our tour guide at Prambanan! He really does it all! General feedback: * We got picked up at 3:00 AM but probably spent about an hour in the waiting area, so we definitely could have slept in a little longer. FYI: It’s about an hour between stops, so you can also catch up on sleep during the drive. * The breakfast, which was delicious, is served after the Borobudur hike. If you’re waking up at 2:30 AM, you won’t eat until around 6:45 AM, so keep that in mind. * We loved the Borobudur sunrise, but if it’s cloudy, the sun may not actually be visible. * The Merapi jeep tour was SO FUN! Shout to our guide Augus! You can even stand up while riding in the jeep and get a little wet if you want. Just like Borobudur, whether you can see the top of the volcano depends on how clear the weather is. * The Prambanan temple complex was absolutely stunning, but it was HOT. Bring sunscreen, water, and a hat. It can also get quite crowded, but it was definitely worth the wait. You are getting an AMAZING FULL BEAUTIFUL DAY in Yogyakarta, with amazing guides, stunning views, great information, and for a great price! BOOK THIS TOUR! Much love, friends from California
