Crab the old-fashioned way using hand lines and nets, while your naturalist guide pulls crab traps to teach you about blue and stone crabs’ life cycles. Enjoy a scenic eco-tour with chances to spot dolphins and coastal wildlife. Once on the beach, swim, explore, or try your hand at catching crabs—don’t worry, we catch and release! The highlight? Our group of three had a wonderful time. The tour produced everything "promised." Saw plenty of wildlife including a pod of dolphins . We explored an uninhabited barrier island, "fished" for crabs the old fashioned way, and even caught some (not a guarantee). Plenty more were provided by the staff for a delicious "crab boil" on the beach with swimming optional. During the boat ride, the staff educated us on the wildlife and estuary living of both people and wildlife. We were shown the differences between male and female crabs and the significance of the molting process especially for females. Females can only mate when their shells are soft so crabbers, amateur or professional should not catch soft shell females. A worthwhile trip for all ages.
Captain Robbie was the best. You could tell he was born and raised in the area because of his passion for South Carolina and the environment. He was very knowledgable of all marine life not only crabs. Caper Island was beautiful and the crabbing was really fun. A storm rolled in so we ate our crabs on the boat, but you could tell he has done this before. Once we got on the boat the tables were set up and butter was melted. A+++ from our crew.
