Black Forest: Self-Guided Hike, Ravenna Gorge
Description
Our self-guided hike takes you down into a valley famous for its ancient mills that once made everything from rope to spoons. You will see how people thrived hundreds of years ago. You are in for a real treat! Besides the classic, dark Black Forest gorge hike next to waterfalls, you get a lot of Black Forest history, a few touristy things, the oldest chapel in the Black Forest, the areas largest cuckoo clock. After the hike you can spend some time in the town of Hinterzarten shopping or eating at one of the many places. Our app provides you with all the info you need to find your way around Hinterzarten. How much time do I need? The Ravenna Gorge Hike itself is only 8 km long – but we have included lots of stops, therefore it can take half a day before you get back to the starting point – depending on your fitness level. If you are a fit person, calculate 3-4 hours round-trip. If you take breaks, have a picnic on the waterfalls or just want to take it easy, consider more time.

Very disappointed in this as there was no commentary. Guided and tracking map was useful. We did a similar one in Freiberg and it was fabulous.
Hello Amanda, I am happy you think our Freiburg Walking Tour was fabulous! But I am disappointed you are rating our hiking tour with 1 star only because you thought this was an audio tour with commentary. We specifically say that this tour provides you with all info you need to do a hike .- including maps and tracking. We never say anywhere that this is an audio tour. What audio are you looking for during a hiking tour? Isn't the point of a hiking tour the hike and the useful maps and tracking? You expected something we never said we are offering. Most people love our Ravenna Gorge hike - but none of them ever expected commentary? I'd appreciate if you reconsidered your rating.
Ideal walk if you want to visit the falls by train, considering the trip departs from the station. If you go by car, it is also perfectly possible to park elsewhere and make the trip a little shorter. This would be more pleasant in warm weather as you walk a fairly long stretch outside the forest to get to the village. Tip: if you are interested in the reels, look up when there are viewing days so that you can actually see something about the reels. Now we were at closed doors and there was not much to see.

We expected more; this guide has very little information. Is it easy to follow? Yes, (with the right footwear), there are clear directions when you need to change direction. However, there is very little about what you see around you. They have added some useful pins for things slightly off the trail. Not worth the money, instead use one of the hiking apps and follow a route there.
Hello - I appreciate your feedback. But I do think you might not have realized how the app worked. There is plenty of information, including photographs and explanations inside the app. At each stop you would open up the stop and read the information. Did you not do that? User error at the beginning. I didn't realize you had to turn on the tracking. After I got that figured out it was fantastic and easy to follow. Beautiful route and was a favorite part of the trip for all three of us. Thank you for making a hike through the Black Forest to the Ravenna Gorge affordable. Highly recommend.

This was a very well organized hiking tour that allowed us to go at our own pace, starting when we wanted and not having to depend upon others. We were there for three days and we had lovely hikes outlined by maps, explicit instructions, and an app that followed us via GPS. BFT gave us restaurant recommendations and made our hotel arrangements so we had no worries; just show up ready to have fun. Crowds were really not a problem. We are a fit retired couple but this would also be great for families as the trails were not difficult or too long. Plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the view.
We can't say enough good things about the hiking trip. Simone's planning was the best. All accommodations were top rated and the hiking app and books made staying on the hiking trails easy. We loved that we were in non touristy areas of the Black Forrest. We felt that we got to experience the authentic Black Forrest. It was a once in a life time experience.

The map and directions are very easy to follow. I was never worried about getting lost. Definitely bring a power bank. The detours are worth doing. The main hike is beautiful. In total it took me 4 hours including 2 30min breaks at the refreshment stops. When I hit back to Hinterzarten, I walked up to the ski jumping facility and watched the training whilst waiting for my train back. 10/10 experience, would recommend.
