We originally booked the bioluminescence tour by Merritt Island, however BK Adventures notified us in the afternoon that the Merritt location was not lighting up the water yet and asked if we would drive and 1 hour and 10 minutes north to Beacon 42 location, so we did. As soon as we opened the door of the vehicle, we were assaulted by hundreds of mosquitoes. We did not even have time to put on bug spray before we were eaten up. There was lightening about 15 miles away, waited longer to see the direction of the clouds. After we loaded the rafts with two 6 people plus the guide, they tell us that this location is called mosquito lagoon. Our bodies were covered with bites, they bite through clothing and these mosquitoes leave welts, we had to by anti-itch ointment the next day. I feel that the company should have told us the true name of the new location before we drove there. We would have not went. We all had bug spray on us, but it was not stopping these mosquitoes. We saw some but not very many bioluminescent, but certainly not enough to warrant the number of bites we received. Our guide was new and had to rely on the knowledge of the other guide for accurate information. Best thing was that we saw the Blue Origin (Jeff Bezos) rocket explosion from about 40 miles north.
Great trip. The guide was super knowledgeable about the nature around..just wish I knew how much paddling was involved! 😂
