With a mannerist style, the São Miguel Arcanjo Fort began to be built in 1577 by D. Sebastião. In 1644, King D. João IV, the Restorer, ordered its remodeling and enlargement. With a privileged location, near the Nazaré promontory, it is currently considered the main observation post of the giant waves at Praia do Norte, which turned Nazaré into a world surf reference. This was a great tour. The sights were amazing. It's a bit of a hill walking back to the van after being down by the water but we made it. Our tour guide was very good, too.

An interesting and beautiful tour, with an extremely knowledgeable guide who was a delight to engage with. Well worth the time and expense. Our only observation was that we could have enjoyed more time in Óbidos.
