Description

Though the capital of Provence and France’s 2nd-largest city, Marseille proudly grooves to its own Mediterranean beat – a mash-up of big-city grit and small-town sociability mixed with seagull squawks and scooter engines. Bookended by limestone fjords and garrigue hills, this working-class metropolis is profoundly shaped by its seaside location and its deep ties to the rest of the Mediterranean. The port has welcomed waves of goods, immigrants, and ideas since 600 B.C. Briny, boisterous, gritty and gorgeous, Marseille is a cultural crossroads in constant flux. The latest evolution was sparked in 2013, when the city reigned as Europe’s Capital of Culture. Now, France’s least-known city is finally on the map. Let us be your guide with this food tour in Marseille.

A memorable day in Marseille

Our delightful guide Chloe led us on a wonderful tour - we really enjoyed our day in Marseille, with all the various food stops; lunch was especially enjoyable - we won’t soon forget la Boite a Sardine. The background history Chloe gave us along the way was very helpful too. Marseille is a special city, a real melting pot, and our guide helped us appreciate what a unique place it is.

Incredible Day in Marseille with Severine as Our Guide.

Never did I think that a food tour could bring out so many emotions. The food. The smells. The flavors. The colors. The stories. The incredible welcome that Marseille offers to its immigrant community and its food diversity as a gate to integration is simply incredible. And, to hear each maker's stories as told by the very insightful and warm host/guide Severine, made me fall in love with Marseille --its food and its people. This is a day and an experience that will last a lifetime. Merci tantissimo, Severine. xx

Amazing food and history tour of Marseille, a don't miss!

This was a really amazing food tour of Marseille, exploring the many different cultures that make Marseille so unique. Our tour guide, Severine, was amazing. She is so knowledgeable not only about the food but also about the history, politics and changes that Marseille has seen since it's earliest days as a city. We began at the top of the stairs at the train station. We visited everything from small grocery stores packed with Armenian delicacies and a store with an incredible array of spices and teas to a delicious fish restaurant for lunch to open air markets. There were tastes of the foods everywhere we went. We met a baker from West Africa preparing dough and baguettes for the French bakery across the street and a small bustling restaurant with all the locals stopping by for hearty lunches and multi layered bread and traditional mint tea. I can't even begin to name all of the places we went, you'll have to book and find out for yourself. We ended the day at the Old Port in an upstairs cafe looking out over the harbour and sipping Pastis! It was a perfect day and I highly recommend this amazing tour! Thank you Severine for all of your wonderful energy and sharing all you know of Marseille with us! Truly memorable!
