Although the exact origins of the cave are uncertain, it is believed to have been built as place for spiritual meditation. One folklore relates that it was created by the fingernail of the legendary giant Kebo Iwa. However, examining its style, the sanctuary was probably dated from the 11th century Bali Kingdom. The complex contains both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, as the cave contains lingam and yoni, symbol of Shiva, and the image of Ganesha, while by the river there are carved images of stupas and chattra, imagery of Buddhism. The temple is characterized by menacing faces that are carved into the stone - who's purpose is assumed to be the warding off of evil spirits. The primary figure was once thought to be an elephant, hence the nickname Elephant Cave. Other sources state that it is named after the stone statue of the Hindu God Ganesh (characterized by having the head of an elephant) located inside of the temple. This site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.

Amazing tour with Ketut

We highly recommend the purchase of a private tour when travelling to Bali, as the destination sites are quite far from each other. The driver proved to be very accommodating and picked us up directly from the airport, taking us straight to a lunch area before proceeding with the itinerary for our first day, which included visiting temples and gates before dropping us off at our designated hotel for check-in. The car facilitates a worry-free trip, as all necessary luggage can easily be stored in the vehicle whilst still savouring the travel experience. Consequently, this is an optimum way to enjoy your time in Bali.

Best of Ubud tour with Mr.Wayan

While we stayed in Seminyak we wanted to visit other areas of Bali. I heard Ubud is different with Seminyak and Kuta. So we searched for good price for the tour and found Wayan's option. It fit for us perfectly, all places we wanted to visit with my wife he can show us. Good price as well. Car was clean, he arrived on time to our hotel, and we directly went for the tour. Ubud was beautiful natural area, we visit Tegalalang rice terraces, waterfall, Balinese Temple, Monkey Forest Sanctuary and local market. For lunch Wayan recommended nice vegetarian restaurant in Ubud. He even helped us to bargain price in the market. Outstanding service. Thank you my friend!
