Itinerary
At Sitka National Historical Park, you’ll step into Alaska’s rich past while surrounded by towering totem poles, lush temperate rainforest, and a stunning coastal backdrop. Stroll the scenic totem-lined trails, where intricately carved poles tell the stories of the Tlingit people, their traditions, and their resilience. Wander through the majestic Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rainforest in the world, where moss-draped trees, babbling streams, and fresh ocean air create a peaceful, awe-inspiring escape into nature. As you cross Indian River, keep an eye out for salmon swimming upstream to spawn in late summer and fall—a powerful sight showcasing Alaska’s wild beauty. At the visitor center, explore exhibits on Tlingit craftsmanship, Russian-American history, and the 1804 Battle of Sitka. Whether you're drawn to history, wildlife, or breathtaking scenery, this park is a must-visit gem!
At Fortress of the Bear, you’ll come face-to-face (safely!) with rescued Alaskan brown and black bears in a stunning natural setting. Unlike a zoo, this wildlife rescue and education center provides a spacious, naturalized habitat where the bears can roam, play, and interact much as they would in the wild. From elevated viewing platforms, you’ll get unobstructed, photographer-friendly views of these incredible animals while knowledgeable staff share their rescue stories, behaviors, and conservation efforts. This is more than just a viewing experience—it’s a chance to connect with Alaska’s wildlife and learn how Fortress of the Bear is giving these orphaned bears a second chance at life. A must-see for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts alike!
At the Alaska Raptor Center, you’ll get an up-close look at some of Alaska’s most majestic birds of prey, including bald eagles, owls, and hawks. This renowned wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center provides a rare opportunity to see these powerful birds and learn about the incredible work being done to rehabilitate and release injured raptors back into the wild. Stroll through the Raptor Woodland, where eagles and other birds live in a lush forest setting, and step into the flight training aviary, where recovering raptors regain their strength before being released. Along the way, knowledgeable staff and volunteers share fascinating insights into each bird’s story, natural behaviors, and conservation efforts. Whether you're a bird lover, a photography enthusiast, or just curious about Alaska’s wildlife, the Alaska Raptor Center offers a truly inspiring and educational experience you won’t forget!

Ryan was our guide and he was great! Very informative & personal. He kept us on time and on track while still giving us space & time to venture on our own.
If you like eagles, totem poles, and bears, this is the tour for you. Sid is a knowledgeable and fun guide - he knows everyone in Sitka! We enjoyed this tour.
3 interesting stops and our tour guide, Riley, was born to do this work. He was so engaging and interesting!
Excellent experience! Our guide was a local from Sitka who was quite knowledgeable and considerate of my limited mobility. We had plenty of time at the bear fortress, totems and raptor center, and he even had time to stop and take our pictures at Silver Lake. Sitka was one of the highlights of our time in Alaska.
Sid was our tour guide and did a fantastic job. He was patient with the kids on the tour and very informative. It was more than I expected.
Riley was our tour guide & I would absolutely ask for him if you can get him. He is a Sitka local and has all sorts of fun and interesting information to share. Plus he helped us find little crabs under rocks at the beach, and blueberries at the park. These were the things that really made the tour fun. Plus, he is hilarious & takes great pics. 10/10 recommend!
We went to the Raptor Sanctuary and the Fortress of the Bear. Riley was our guide and he was awesome. Very knowledgeable of the city. The bears were incredible! Lucky is huge and adorable. I wouldn't want to do any other company for a tour in Sitka.
Ryan was an awesome guide offering context to the stops. He had some great jokes along the way and was very warm and personable. Highly recommmend for your stop in Sitka!
Our tour guide Ryan was awesome! Best tour in Sitka especially if you are an animal lover don't hesitate book it.
This was an amazing tour of Sitka AK. Koali + The Captain Gary’s Sitka Adventures Crew were easy to find as soon as we got off the ship dock. We left for the tour on time with just the right size group of about 12 people. Our tour guide Riley was very friendly and knowledgeable as he is a native Sitkan. We not only got to see the Raptor Center, the Fortress of the Bear, and Totem Park, we also stopped at a beautiful photo area and also learned a lot about Sitka and Southeast Alaska. All this while being cheaper that the cruise ship excursions. Got back in plenty of time to wander around town, shop and eat!
