Description

Sachsenhausen was the first purpose-built concentration camp, created as a centre of terror, persecution, and systematic brutality. Initially, it imprisoned those the Nazi regime considered racially, socially, or politically undesirable. Travel through the town of Oranienburg and learn how the local community was connected to the camp. Your expert, licensed guide will lead you through key locations including the punishment cells, infirmary, barracks, gas chamber, and crematoria, while sharing powerful stories of resilience and courage among prisoners. The tour also visits the Inspectorate of Concentration Camps, the administrative centre that controlled the Nazi camp system across Europe. This is a fully guided and stress-free experience. Our guides will welcome and assist you at the meeting point in Berlin, accompany you throughout the day, and bring you comfortably back to the city centre at the conclusion of the tour. A €3 per person donation supports the Sachsenhausen Memorial.

Invaluable Insight and Guidance, Highly Recommend

I am so glad I booked a tour instead of doing this on my own. Our tour guide, Ariel, l was incredibly knowledgeable and brought insight to the history of the camp that was invaluable. I enjoyed that the tour gave us time to look through the exhibits, but also our guide pointed out the important pieces that could easily get lost in the fold of a large complex. The guide was also kind and willing to answer any and all questions we had. I would definitely recommend this tour to others wanting to visit.

Excellent tour and guide!

Guide mikey was and excellent and patient guide. He was both helpful in sourcing train tickets and skilled in delivering the nuanced narrative of the camp its origins and its evolution hand in hand with the nazis rise to power and eventual downfall. Highly recommended in exploring the banality of evil.

Tina is fantastic!

We went on both the Third Reich and Sachsenhausen tours on separate days and had the pleasure of Tina being our guide on both occasions. Both tours were incredibly informative and Tina has a fantastic way of making history tangible. Her passion for history shines through in what she does and you can tell the hours that she has put into researching the most minute details. We found ourselves over the next few days remembering quotes Tina had said and all the details that she had highlighted that really stayed with us. Tina tackled such delicate subject matters with the perfect mixture of information and real human emotion. We would definitely recommend the tours to anyone visiting to get the most out of your visit. You’ll be even more lucky if Tina is your guide!

MUST DO tour if you’re in Berlin

Must do tour. With only a basic understanding of what Nazi Germany comprised of, I learnt so much today visiting this camp. Our Guide Tina is an Aussie who has lived in Berlin for 5+ years and being so passionate about what she was talking about, added so much more value to the story telling of the history. She had answers to all of the questions I had, and was so lovely. The tour itself must be done to truly understand how harrowing the history of these camps were. (Book directly through insider tour if you can, the guides benefit from this opposed to 3rd party).
