Itinerary
In Portugal’s Centro region, Peniche is a beach destination with many feathers in its cap. First, the raging sea and the lie of the land make this surf central. The best of many supreme beaches is Praia dos Supertubos, which has a tubular wave fit for big time international events. Peniche has also been a port since the Early Modern Age, when a fort was constructed to defend it. This monument has an absorbing history, first as a maritime defence and then a prison during the Estado Novo regime in the 20th century. And since Peniche is still a fishing port, the fish and seafood could not be fresher. And on top of everything, you also have to make time for a voyage to the Berlingas Islands, a natural reserve off the coast.
The Berlenga are a series of barren and rocky islands that are battered by powerful seas and strong winds, and are a haven for both bird and marine wildlife. Berlenga Grande, the largest of the islands, can be visited and offers a dramatic coastline of caves, grottos and a sea teaming with wildlife.
Spend a day on Berlenga Grande, an amazing island in the Berlengas Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural das Berlengas).
The Berlengas island is located in the North East Atlantic off the coast of Portugal, approximately 6 miles (~10km) from Cape Carvoeiro (Peniche) and comprises three groups of islands: Berlenga, Estelas and Farilhões.
Join us in boat trip, have a close up on sea caves and take a walk on Berlenga Island. This tour combines a fun fast boat ride, cave sightseeing and a the walking trail of the UNESCO listed area. This way you will learn a lot about maritime life, as well as the history of the archipelago. The boat takes you to Berlenga Island, which takes approximately 20 minutes from Peniche. Once there, we take you for a cave tour. Berlenga offers unique rock formations in the caves which we can explore from the boat. Then, we wharf at the island from where a walking starts. Before going back to the mainland, we recommend you to try some local dishes from nearby restaurants.

Our tour guide Hugo did a great job on this tour. We learned alot about the history and culture of the area. Any questions he was not sure about he quickly asked locals and provided answers. Lunch recommendation was fabulous and the island was spectacular for those that like hiked around. Finally we got hit by heavy rains driving back to Lisboa and Hugo took some extra time to ensure we arrived safely back to our hotel. Great day and tour.
Thank you so much for your review. Hope you come to visit us again. Best regards.
Too pretty. Just going to have experience. The streets, villas, beautiful landscapes, excursions, food, all very good. Great.

Very productive and peaceful trip to Berlengas, the staff were super friendly and excited to provide us with the best.
The staff is nice. The catamaran boat that took us to the Berlengas island was nice and safe. The other boat the showed the surroundings of the island was good and the staff nice and talkative about explaining the various beautiful grottoes. The nice boy that took us to show the island tracks was great about explaining the interesting island story. In all a nice experiment that would recommend entirely.
Exceptional! A site to see absolutely! The boat ride! Walk to discover the fauna and flora! The beach! The fortress All the elements are gathered to spend a beautiful day in a different environment. Be careful a little sporty so plan good shoes for the walk
We went with Feeling Berlengas who were excellent. We walked to fort and then went on glass bottom boat for a view from the sea and see the Island from the water. We walked to the tip of Island and lazed by the beach (water too cold for me). Awesome day. You stay for only 4 hours but that was plenty. We walked to fort, had a look around and was back at jetty within an hour.

The island of Berlengas itself is beautiful, photos do not do it justice! I definitely recommend going to the island, however did not feel as though the tour was explained properly in the outline. I, along with the other members of the tour, felt as though we were ripped off. The cost of the tour only included the return trip in a 4WD to the port where we would leave for the island. We got to the port to leave and were told that the tour hadnt been booked and that we had to wait for them to find us a time slot. We were then told that we had to pay for the boat to take us to the island as well as the optional trip to the grottos. One couple on the trip had a baby and were told that they could easily take a pram up to the island, we were not informed that the tour of the island was more of a hike, and that there was absolutely no way that a pram would fit on the path. This couple ended up forgoing their tour.
It would have been just as easy, and definitely cheaper, to simply get a bus to the port and organise our own tour with one of the companies there. Didn't even get a water!
