Berlengas Island Private Day Trip from Lisbon

Description
Escape Lisbon for one of Portugal's best-kept secrets: the Berlengas Islands, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve just 1.5 hours from the city. On this private full-day tour from Lisbon, you'll travel in comfort to the fishing village of Peniche, board a shared boat to Berlenga Grande. Visit the iconic São João Baptista Fort, built in the 17th century to defend Portugal's coastline from pirates. Walk the island's nature trails, swim in crystal-clear Atlantic waters, and explore dramatic sea caves — optionally by glass-bottom boat. Unlike crowded group tours, this is a private tour: just you, your group, and your dedicated guide. Want to add even more to your day? We can combine this Berlengas day trip with a stop in the medieval walled village of Óbidos — one of Portugal's most charming destinations, just 20 minutes from Peniche.

Itinerary
We begin our journey heading north through the verdant landscapes of the "Autoestrada do Oeste," the gateway to Portugal’s Atlantic heart.
We explore the dramatic shores of Peniche through a spectacular coastal drive. Along the Marginal Norte and Sul, we marvel at 150-million-year-old rock formations that tell the story of Pangea. We stop at the iconic Cabo Carvoeiro, a majestic headland where the raw power of the ocean has sculpted the cliffs into natural art, offering one of the most significant geological perspectives in Europe.
After passing the historic Peniche Fortress—a landmark of Portuguese political history—we reach the marina to board our vessel.
The highlight of our day. Enjoy 3 hours in this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a pristine sanctuary for biodiversity. The experience includes a scenic hike along the island's trails leading to the Fort of São João Baptista. Built in the 17th century and connected by stone arch bridges over crystal-clear turquoise waters, this fort is one of the most cinematic and iconic images of Portugal.
After a refreshing 40-minute boat crossing from the islands, we arrive back at the vibrant Peniche Marina. Here, you will have a moment to breathe in the final sea breeze and watch the local fishermen at work before we board our comfortable van once again. As we leave the harbor behind, we begin our scenic drive toward the next chapter of our journey, ensuring a seamless and relaxing transition from the Atlantic wildness back to the comfort of our private tour.”
You have the opportunity to enjoy the views over the beach and, if there is no fog, A glimpse over the islands
On our return, we step back in time with a 1-hour walking tour inside the walls of Óbidos. Wander through its cobblestone streets and enjoy the atmosphere of one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval villages
After finishing our day we'll catch the highway back to Lisbon.

My friend and I had a very nice time visiting, Peniche, Berlengas, and Obidos on our tour. Staying in Lisbon without a car, this was the best hassle free way to see those places. Our guide, Filipe was punctual, flexible, and had many suggestions of what to see in the area. Due to the timing of the boat onto and off of Berlingas, we did not have time for a swim, in addition to the blue cave and island boat tour, touring the fort, hiking to the village, and having lunch, so if that is important to you, speak with your guide to plan the best use of your time on the island.
Hello Mrs. Melissa, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We truly appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour of Peniche, Berlengas, and Óbidos. As you mentioned, Berlengas is a natural reserve with certain restrictions on the number of visitors and the duration of their stay. We aim to plan and organize our tours to include a boat trip, hiking, and a visit to the fortress, along with time to enjoy lunch and a short swimm. While I understand your desire to spend more time swimming, the natural reserve's limitations can affect the overall itinerary. It's often our guide's goal to encourage guests to take a dip, and I'm sorry if there was any misunderstanding regarding this. I appreciate your perspective and will ensure that our team is aware of your comments to improve future experiences. Thank you once again for your insights, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on another tour in the future! Best regards, Rui
