Itinerary
Welcome to our culinary journey, starting at Plaça de Ramon Berenguer el Gran! Our guide will make introductions, setting the stage for an exciting exploration of Barcelona's rich culinary scene.
Located at the heart of the Gothic Quarter, the Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that took six centuries to complete. While its facade is famously ornate and neo-Gothic, the interior is a cavernous space of high vaulted ceilings and stunning 14th-century stained glass. Its most charming secret is the secluded cloister, home to thirteen white geese, a living tribute to Saint Eulàlia, the city’s co-patron saint, who was martyred at the age of thirteen. A great monument to visit on your trip to Barcelona and a nice way to start your food tour !
Once the site of medieval jousting matches, El Born has evolved into Barcelona’s most effortlessly cool neighborhood, where ancient stone walls meet high-end fashion and artisan boutiques. It is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets centered around the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar basilica, a pure example of Catalan Gothic style. By day, it’s a cultural hub featuring the Picasso Museum; by night, it transforms into a vibrant social scene filled with some of the city’s most inventive tapas bars and "speakeasy" cocktail lounges. It only makes sense to take you around this neighbourhood for our food tour
Embark on a culinary adventure in the El Born neighborhood, beginning with the vibrant Mercat de Santa Caterina. This modern food market, known for its innovative architectural design, is a haven for food enthusiasts. Explore stalls brimming with fresh produce, meats, fish, and a delightful array of Catalan and Mediterranean ingredients. Beyond its culinary offerings, the market fosters a sense of community, where locals gather to shop for quality goods and enjoy a social atmosphere. El Born, characterized by its medieval streets and cultural richness, adds a trendy and historic flair to our culinary journey.
Our next stop takes us to La Barceloneta, a lively coastal neighborhood celebrated for its golden sandy beaches and maritime charm. Originally developed in the 18th century, La Barceloneta maintains its maritime heritage through narrow streets and colorful buildings reminiscent of a traditional fishermen's quarter. Renowned for its seafood restaurants, where fresh catches of the day delight the palate, La Barceloneta transforms as night falls into a vibrant nightlife hotspot. The beachfront bars and clubs come alive, drawing both locals and tourists for an evening filled with music, dancing, and socializing. Whether basking in the sun or embracing the nightlife, La Barceloneta offers a dynamic and unforgettable experience.

The rating is not a reflection of the tour guide or secret food tours but rather Spain in its current state and the organized crime rampant in this area. Between stop one and stop 2, while discussing the history of the beautiful streets, 3 men were moving in and out of the the main road and alley, one grabbed my sons shoulder and ripped a St Christopher medal off his neck. As I ran after the three thugs, a 4th came out of the alley and a confrontation ensued. He had a bag and reached for something….we believe it to be a knife (this was confirmed to standard practice from a police officer for these types of crimes). It’s organized crime, targeting gold jewelry involving 4-5 men. There was a 5th man believed to be a lookout on a terrace who alerted the “muscle”. It was scary, ruined the trip for us and we left immediately. The tour guide was great, supportive, apologetic and they issued a refund. No problems with them at all. This is more about the state of affairs in Spain as these groups are becoming more brazen in their attempts and walking through alleys that aren’t heavily populated creates a risk to participants. I’ve suggested that the operator looks for alternate routes. Guard jewelry Cell phones And don’t do what I did…multiple officers and hotel security informed me that had a physical altercation ensued, I would have been arrested…not the thieves. They also indicated that the last guy is always armed usually with a knife. Here is a picture of one of the guys
Terrible tour, guide was rude and had to apologize for it, I haven't been scolded like a child in 50 years. Food was lacking, and kind of gross.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Michael. It's disappointing to hear that the experience didn't leave the impression we aim to create Our tours are designed to introduce guests to authentic local flavors while sharing the stories and culture behind each stop, and guests have often enjoyed both the food and the welcoming atmosphere. We understand, however, that every experience is personal, and we're saddened this one didn't meet your expectations. Your comments have been shared with our local team. The guide will receive continued coaching and support, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective as we continue refining the experience for future guests. We'd love the opportunity to welcome you back on another Secret Food Tour in the future and provide the kind of experience we hope every guest enjoys.
The food on the tour was tasty especially at the second stop ! There is a lot of food so come hungry. There were several people who attended the tour who didn’t like seafood so if you don’t like seafood I would skip this tour as there are dishes that include seafood. I took off one star because our guide wasn’t very informative and didn’t really interact much with us and he reprimanded a guy for cutting the Spanish omelette. He did apologize at the end of the tour and stating he got bad news earlier. I think he should have canceled because the guide makes the tour !

We had a wonderful tour with Muriel. All of the foods were delicious and she did such a wonderful job of giving context to everything we were eating, and the history of both her city and the shops/restaurants that we visited. Great experience.

Great exposure to Catalan culture and food. Our guide Steve was the best I’ve had in Barcelona. Be prepared for some walking but at the end you’ll be full of great food, great drinks and a boatload of local knowledge.

Our first foodie tour and what a great experience it was!! Jordi was awesome- obviously well-known throughout the old town of Barcelona and he knew just where to take us. He chose the best of the best - from sweet to savory… ending with a magnificent paella! He shared so much of the Spanish culture with us- we learned a lot and ate well. Thank you Jordi of Secret Food Tours and Viator!
