I loved seeing how the spices were used. This is a tough review because I think of the cultural difference between US and India. Our car service was over an hour late. We also had a delay and returning do to car service unavailable. Our host did speak English but it was not enough for us to understand. My biggest concern was there were some insects sharing our space and the lack of air conditioning. Again, possibly a cultural difference.
I was susposed to be provided a transfer to the activity. The tour operator did not respond to multiple requests for a pickup time and then cancelled my pickup less than 3 hours before the event. My evening started with me being served a beverage in a dirty glass. Then I saw bugs crawling up the wall in 2 different locations. Next I dropped a bean on the floor and the host put it back in the serving bowl without washing it off. Then the host dropped bread dough on the floor and placed it back on the plate contaminating other pieces of dough then cooked them. Other than being nauseated by the above incidents the hosts were very nice.
This was a great experience, we were able to make a ton of dishes and learn more about India. The cooking class is ran by a lovely family that was able to show us the ins and outs of indian cooking. I dont think we will be able to recreate the meals but by doing this we learned what we really liked and could ask for when we were on our own.
Our transportation was almost 2 hours late with little notice that the original transportation had completely cancelled. Even when we got the transportation, we weren't given an OTP or told any details about the location we were going to until asked. I will say that they were responsive but 2 hours is extremely inconvenient. I offered to get my own transportation but was assured everything was taken care of. The cooking experience itself was great, if you have a large group like mine (10) their home is a little on the small side but they are very accommodating and try to create as many opportunities as possible to be a part of the cooking process. The food was great and it tasted even better knowing that we had a hand in cooking it. The daughter was also gracious enough to dance Bharatnatyam before we left. Overall the experience was great, but our 7:00 PM booking was so late that we got back home at almost midnight (we're 30 minutes away).
