Itinerary
You get picked up at your hotel in Yangon to visit the former capital of Bago by train. The pleasant train ride takes around 2 hours and gives you a glimpse of the beauty of the countryside. The first sight you visit is the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, often referred to as the "Golden God Temple". This pagoda is the tallest pagoda in the, although the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon receives those credits.
Continue to the Shwethalyaung Pagoda, a reclining Buddha, which has a length of 55 meters. Myanmar people say about the Buddha image, that it represents Buddha in a 'relaxing' mode.
After that, visit the Kanbawzathadi Palace, built for King Bayinnaung in 1556. The palace was rebuilt following the original design, based on knowledge gained from excavations and the original drawings of the building. There are several reproductions on display, like a replica of the King’s golden coach.
Next stop of the tour is the Kyaikpun Pagoda on the way back to Yangon. There is a small Buddhist monastery, known for its four towering images of the Buddha, often visible from far distance. The images, facing each others back, represent the four Buddhas that have reached Nirvana.
On the way back to Yangon, you stop by the Taukkyan War Cemetery, a monument for allied soldiers from the British Commonwealth who died in battle in Burma during the Second World War.

No tour guide came. We waited at the meeting point for about an hour before they came, so we called the tour company, but couldn’t get through. We had them deal with it viator, but we never heard from them. I don't think you should go on Pegu Travels tours.
It was an early start, 5:45 am, Kevin and the driver were early and waiting on me. We drove to the train station to take the ride to Bago. Train left on time, the train engine was struggling, it finally stopped 35 minutes outside of town. They announced they were going to change engines. We went and had a little breakfast and waited another 20 minutes. He asked me was I ok with taking a small bus, I said of course, part of the adventure! It was a fun ride, arrived at Bago. The rest of the day was great!
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the trip to Bago a lot. In Myanmar, there is of course always a slight chance that unexpected events may occur, leading to a sudden change of plans. We are glad that you took the adventure with us and we hope to see you again in the Golden Land!
