EXCEPTIONAL experience. The most amazing and interesting activity I did in Kathmandu. Spent 1/2 day with a peaceful & warm family in their home-based garden and kitchen learning and cooking authentic Nepali food. Organic Veggies straight from their on-site garden. Genuine teaching and patient guidance from Kalpana and her daughter, Sachiko. You cut, dice, grind, grate, and sauté many local ingredients (garlic, onions, potatoes, zucchini, carrots, spinach, paneer, etc) with numerous spices and assemble them into several courses, along with sauces & curry, and also make 3 types of momos. Then you all eat it together! Hotel pick-up and drop-off just 20 mins away. This truly is a hidden treasure, a MUST-DO experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I had the privilege of spending time with this beautiful Nepalese woman and her family who graciously welcomed me into their family kitchen and shared the recipes and experience of preparing authentic Nepalese food. Do not eat before you go! You prepare so much food that you and the family eat together. I also learned how to make masala (milk tea) and hot ginger lemon honey tea. After the mid morning meal we then embarked on the lengthy process of making delicious momos. Dumplings filled with chicken or cheese and steamed and fried. The laughter, the cooking class and the experience of being with the gentle welcoming people of Nepal is a gift for the soul. I highly recommend this intimate experience of learning how to prepare authentic Nepalese food in a family setting. Their outdoor gardens were beautiful also.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed being welcomed into Kalpana’s kitchen! Her and her family’s warm hospitality and knowledgeable teaching was such a great experience. We shared many laughs and folded many momos together. We are so excited to make momos at home and show our friends! Thanks again.
This was one of the most incredible cooking classes we have attended! Way exceeded our expectations. Beautiful home and we got to choose our ingredients. The most LOVELY hosts and my daughter and I loved every minute of our day. Such incredibly good food and amazing hospitality! Would definitely do it again!!!
Thank you very much for your review. Glad to know you and your daughter loved the class.
It was the best experience I could ever describe. I was a little nervous about the solo participation, but Mr. Kalpana and Ms. Sachiko, who have a nice smile, are really fun to teach me. I learn a lot because I spend a lot of time teaching more than 10 items. Also, although I don't speak much English, I can rest assured that my Japanese speaking staff (husband) will be there to help. The seasoning is natural, so it suits Japanese tastes.
Thank you for your great review. Glad to know you enjoyed the cooking.
Awesome day learning to cook the local food, great home cooking. They do everything possible to make you feel comfortable and to make it fun.
Hello Barry, Thank you for the great reviews. It always inspire to me to do more better. Thank you again.
Me and a friend visited Nepal for a week and this was our favorite experience. It was a ton of fun learning to cook and getting to chat with Kalpana and her kind family. I recommend this class to anyone visiting Nepal!
Thank you very much for the nice review. I am happy that you enjoyed. Hope to see you again in Nepal.
Kalpana was such a warm, kind and thoughtful host. Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class and would highly recommend. Kalpana adjusted the menu accordingly for dietary preferences and even swapped out a meal when we showed interest in another dish. The food itself was delicious and we are so grateful to be ablento share these flavours back home with our family! Both Kalpana and her daughter made us feel welcome and made sure we all had a memorable experience. Highly recommended!

Our family of 6 did the half day cooking class with Kalpana. It was a treat to leave busy Kathmandu and travel by private car (included) to the countryside and spend the morning at Kalpana’s home. The cooking class was very well structured with cutting, chopping, mixing, cooking and rolling experiences for everyone. Kalpana’s kitchen was spacious and her family were so welcoming. We learnt a lot and then really enjoyed sitting at Kalpana’s table and eating our delicious meal all together. Kalpana and her husband were delightful - with generous smiles and laughter and excellent English to help us through. Our only regret was that we hadn’t also arranged to stay the night at their lovely attached hotel (Green Eco Resort). Also Kalpana was able to accommodate our coeliac daughter and include gluten free momos on the menu which we really appreciated. An excellent cooking class experience for us all.
