We have been in Crete for two weeks and this experience will be forever in our memory. Vas and Sofia and their beautiful mother are PERFECT and being in their home and learning their culture was amazing. EVERYONE wanting a special family memory and to emerge yourself in the beautiful Crete culture has to do this! You will love it as much as we did. The food was unbelievable, the tour around their farm was so special and their kindness was beautiful.God bless this family and we will be back!
What an amazing and memorable experience. It was unique, authentic, special and left such a warm feeling. The family is welcoming, hospitable and lovely. The mountainside garden and farm, table setting and overall surrounding is beautiful. The class was fun and engaging. The food was simple yet delicious and wholesome. Our whole group had such a special and wonderful time. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for an authentic Cretan cooking class with a lovely local family.
This was a highlight of our trip. We enjoyed spending time with this family, who not only taught us about cooking an authentic Cretan dinner, but learning about village life, meeting some of the animals, and gaining a glimpse into farming in Crete. Our hosts were attentive and welcoming, and we even enjoyed meeting the other guests, with ample time to get to know each other as we were also working together on the meal and then while we ate. Thank you to our wonderful hosts and we wish you continued success and happiness.
This was so much more than a cooking class. The experience was hands-on from start to finish. We had the opportunity to bottle-feed sheep, milk a goat, learn traditional dances, prepare delicious local dishes, and then sit down together to enjoy the incredible meal we created. Every part of the day felt genuine, warm, and thoughtfully planned. The highest compliment I can give is this: my 25-year-old daughter, who has traveled extensively, said it was the best experience she has ever had. That says it all. We highly recommend this experience!!
This is an ABSOLUTE must. If you are looking to experience authentic Greek cooking, culture, and hospitality, then look no further. Sophia and her family are the kindest, most genuine people, and they welcome you to Crete with the utmost warmth and friendliness. I feel very grateful and blessed that they were willing to open their home to share their knowledge of not just cooking but of Cretan living and everything that makes it so special and beautiful. Big thank you to the hosts, and I urge anyone who is considering this to just do it, because you will take it home as an irreplicable experience.
This cooking class was, without a doubt, our favorite experience from our entire trip to Greece. As someone of Greek descent, I especially appreciated how authentic everything felt. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed like family, and it was clear we weren't just learning recipes. We were being taught the family meals and traditions that have been passed down through generations. The experience went far beyond cooking. While our dishes simmered, we toured the family farm, met all of the animals, and even had the chance to milk a goat. It gave us such a deeper appreciation for where the ingredients came from and the way of life that makes Cretan cuisine so special. We also walked to the host's grandmother's house, where she welcomed us with freshly baked cookies straight from the oven. It felt less like a class and more like spending the day with family. The quality of the ingredients was incredible. The goat cheese had been made the day before from fresh goat's milk, and the vegetables were picked straight from the garden. Every dish reflected the freshness and simplicity that define traditional Cretan cooking. What made this experience even more unique was that we weren't just learning Greek recipes. We were learning authentic Cretan dishes that are unique to the island and its culinary traditions. If you're visiting Crete, do not miss this experience. It is authentic, immersive, and full of genuine hospitality. We left with full stomachs, new cooking skills, and memories we'll cherish forever. It was easily the highlight of our trip to Greece.
Authentic & wonderful Crete experience. Cooking with Sofia fun and easy. We did not expect to be able to walk through the entire farm and feed the animals. That was a pleasant experience and one we will never forget. We enjoyed every moment of this and would highly recommend.
Beautiful experience my family will remember forever! First of all, the property is stunning. Sofia taught my family (me, husband, daughters ages 8 & 10) to cook a traditional Cretan meal including lamb, potatoes, stuffed veggies and grape leaves, mini pies, and more. While our food cooked we visited the farm animals, baby bunnies, chickens, goats and lambs. We milked the goats and fed the baby lambs, my daughters were in heaven! After the tour we ate our meal together and it was delicious! Afterwards we chatted and my husband even played some mandolin with Sofia’s brother. It was a perfect day, highly recommend!!!
My partner and I (late 20s) loved everything about this class. We were super lucky to be the only ones in our class for the evening so w basically had a private tour. From the authentic, beautiful setting at the Veggera Farm, to the amazing hosts (brother, sister and mom) and of course to the delicious Cretan food we learned to make (while drinking their home made natural wine of course!) The farm tour was excellent, and we felt like we had stepped into a real Cretan way of life. We milked the goats, held baby animals and played with the amazing doggy Nutella. My partner and I highly recommend this tour and will be sure to return next time we are in Crete. 10/10 experience!
Visiting this 4-generation family farm was very special. Guided by Sophia we cooked several dishes using all ingredients sourced on their farm-olive oil, herbs, olives, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, zucchini, honey, cheese and rabbit. Our hosts were kind, very warm to us and another family. We were shown the farm-so many kinds of fruit trees, grandfather’s old repaired beehives, and the meal cooked on an outdoor wood stove! There was a magnificent view of the valley. Our hosts explained that “ Veggera” is sitting at a table with friends or strangers or family and sharing food and stories. Strangers when we arrived, we spent the day feeling like family members- because of our hosts’ big hearts. We fed the goats, held the baby rabbits and chicks. We would gladly return for another Veggera experience at their table and recommend this to adults and children.
