Built to replace another market, demolished in 1876, it was opened in 1930. The interior was completely remodeled following renovation work on the facilities carried out between 2010 and 2011.
The project for a modern fortification to defend this stretch of the Portuguese coast dates back to the 14th century, with the construction of the Fort of Santiago do Outão, intended to control the river entrance.
The Arrábida Natural Park is a biogenetic reserve located on the Setúbal peninsula, covering the municipalities of Palmela, Setúbal and Sesimbra, with the highest altitude in Pico do Formosinho (501m altitude), in the district of Setúbal, in Portugal. It extends for 35 kilometers.
Azeitão is formed by the old parishes of Azeitão (São Lourenço and São Simão), sharing the name "de Azeitão", thanks to the extensive olive groves that, in Arab times, dominated those parts.
Palmela Castle is located in the village, parish and municipality of the same name, district of Setúbal, in Portugal. From the top of its keep, on clear days the view opens up to Lisbon.

After several days of exploring on our own, this was a perfect way to see some new areas while giving our legs a rest. Our guide, Diogo, truly went above and beyond to make this a memorable day for us (including a wine/art tour and finding a handmade tile shop on our way!). He was a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area, and even tied in the history of the places we visited on the tour with the places we’d already seen to really understand how it all connected! Truly a wonderful day - our only regret was that we booked this near the end of our vacation and couldn’t have him take us on another excursion.

Diogo Sampaio gave us the best tour of Setubal 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves to learn the history of on area or have convenient door to door tours of an unfamiliar area. We will be back for another tour very soon!
