Itinerary
Begin your Arles adventure at Alyscamps, an ancient Roman necropolis. Explore this UNESCO site that captivated Van Gogh, inspiring four paintings. Discover its rich history and the artist's connection to this hauntingly beautiful place.
Discover Jardin d'Eté, a delightful urban park that inspired Van Gogh. Enjoy fountains and playgrounds with the Roman amphitheatre as a backdrop. Experience the garden's beauty that the artist once described as a poetic dreamscape.
Explore the Roman Arena, a 2000-year-old marvel still in use today. Van Gogh captured its vibrant atmosphere in his painting "Arena in Arles". Imagine the spectacles and crowds that inspired the artist's energetic brushstrokes.
Wander down Rue Voltaire, a picturesque street that seems frozen in time. Colorful awnings, pastel shutters, and lively cafes create scenes reminiscent of Van Gogh's paintings. Immerse yourself in the timeless charm that inspired the artist.
Stand where Van Gogh's "Yellow House" once stood. This corner, now a restaurant, was the artist's beloved home. Imagine the vibrant yellow building and passing trains that inspired his famous painting and connection to nature.
Experience the scene of Van Gogh's "Starry Night Over the Rhone". This tranquil painting captures the rich night colors and reflections on the river. Compare the serene atmosphere to the artist's more famous "Starry Night".
Explore Musée Réattu, which Van Gogh once harshly criticized. His disdain contrasts with his love for Arles' women. Consider how the artist's struggles and lack of recognition may have influenced his views on other artists' works.
Visit Le Café Van Gogh, a modern recreation of the cafe in the artist's famous painting. Although not the original site, it offers an immersive experience. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that once inspired Van Gogh's masterpiece.
Explore Place du Forum, once Arles' Roman center. See the ancient column in Nord-Pinus Hotel. Van Gogh painted "Café Terrace at Night" here, capturing vibrant nighttime colors and challenging artistic conventions of his era.
Visit the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, housed in Hôtel Léautaud de Donines. This museum focuses on Van Gogh's influence on modern artists rather than displaying his famous works. Explore the artist's enduring legacy in Arles.
Stand where Van Gogh painted "The Bridge of Trinquetaille". Experience the vivid colors he described - the absinthe-hued sky and river, lilac quays, and blue bridge. Observe the scene that inspired his emotionally raw artwork.
Experience the enchanting Pont de Trinquetaille in Arles, immerse in Van Gogh's inspiration, and carry home a piece of its magic.
Explore the Old Arles Hospital courtyard, where Van Gogh found solace amid turmoil. Experience his resilience through art even in darkness.

I wouldn't recommend this. The app is quite irritating with an American voice droning on in detail inviting you to visualise Van Gogh's time while you're stood next to a bury road.
The guide does not match its title. There is hardly anything related to the life and work of Van Gogh in Arles, probably because there are no real traces of his stay in the city. Everything ends up being "imagine." There is a "flowery" text that aims to be evocative, but it provides almost no concrete information. In reality, it is a guide to Arles.
This was so much fun. I have done a lot of audio self guided tours and this was the best. As you walked up to a spot, the app recognized where you were and started telling about the spot. Very enjoyable, very educational. Will definitely look for tours from this app in the future. One note specific to this tour, make sure you are prepared to buy the advantage ticket o explore the monuments and museums in more details. Extra cost but definitely worth it.
We love the self guided walks. The app worked perfectly the information was interesting and informative.
Not worth the time! Very little real insights or historic information about VG or Arles. The weakest aspect of the tour was its design…a one-way tour is too difficult to plan your day around and if you did it “out and back” it would be a 4 mile/4 hour tour.
This was my first time trying a self guided tour from viator so i had some hesitation, but it turned out well.
For older folks, walking in a day may take over 6 hours. Arles is only slightly up and down. Museums, Roman sights and shopping take time to experience. The guide is helpful with the sights and information along the way. We are going over two days.
In the footsteps of van Gogh and the Romans - impressive guided tour with lots of information about the history of Arle, which was shaped by the Romans and captured by van Gogh in many pictures
App tried to update in the middle of the tour. No WiFi and could not update so app was not useable. I have asked for a refund.
Seeing how the city inspired Van Gogh’s most famous works was magical. The app did a great job linking his paintings with the real places we walked through.
