Arctic Night Odyssey: Northern Lights Drive & Snowmobile Safari

Description
We believe the best way to experience the Arctic is away from the crowds, so we’ll pick you up in a comfortable SUV and head deep into the Lappish wilderness. Our destination is a secluded spot by a frozen lake, far from any city lights, where the silence is as powerful as the views. This is where your hunt for the Northern Lights begins. But we don't just wait for them to appear—we take the adventure further. You’ll hop on a snowmobile for a thrilling ride through the snowy forest, exploring the dark, magical landscape under the stars. To keep you warm and fueled, we’ll gather around a crackling open fire to grill traditional sausages and enjoy hot berry juice with a sweet local treat. It’s more than just a tour; it’s a night of real Lapland magic, cozy conversations by the fire, and the pure excitement of chasing the Aurora.

This was not a real chase — and that was extremely disappointing. A true aurora adventure hunt means actively driving to where the lights are strongest. Instead, we were taken to a fixed location — their own garage/backyard where their snow scooters are parked — regardless of where the actual aurora activity was happening. Our guide initially seemed sweet and mentioned he was tracking a YouTube channel for updates. However, it became clear that we were only being taken to one predetermined spot. We could visibly see stronger aurora activity in the opposite direction and even pointed out that other groups were heading there — but he refused to change course because he had to return to where their scooters were stationed. We were lucky there was some aurora visible at that location — but that was luck, not effort. The experience got worse: • Our package included dinner, but the guide insisted it was not included. It took nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth before he finally admitted it was part of our booking. • Meanwhile, we were made to ride snowmobiles in -20°C for 30–35 minutes in near darkness, mostly going in circles — clearly just to pass time. • Most reputable aurora chases advertise 5–8 hour flexibility depending on conditions. Guidefather was rigid: maximum 3 hours, no flexibility. • On our way back, after we insisted that stronger lights were visible elsewhere, he briefly drove us toward the direction of the Arcticum area — but stopped in the most artificially lit part, where it was impossible to see anything clearly. • We were dropped back in just 2 hours 45 minutes. The guide was also unnecessarily rude and poorly informed. If you are looking for a combined snowmobile + fixed-location viewing tour, this might work for you. But if you are booking expecting a genuine, flexible aurora chase that follows the best conditions — this is not it. We felt misled.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback and for giving us the opportunity to clarify a few important points. As stated in the itinerary, the experience begins with an "SUV transfer from your accommodation, followed by arrival at our private location by a frozen lake for the campfire picnic in the Glass Igloo area." This is the base from which the snowmobile portion of the tour operates. Our tour description clearly explains that the aurora hunt itself takes place by snowmobile: “Hunting the Northern Lights by Snowmobile – we head out into the dark forest on snowmobiles, riding through the snow in search of the best spot to see the Northern Lights.” The intention is to explore deeper into the surrounding wilderness, away from light pollution, using snowmobiles as the primary mode of searching - not to conduct a long-distance highway chase by car. Before departure, we provided thermal gear due to the cold conditions and then set out into the dark forested areas where visibility conditions are typically better and light pollution is minimal. The route is planned to combine and enjoy everything at the same time; aurora visibility, beautiful Finnish nature and get to experience driving the snowmobiles in the wilderness. Regarding duration, the program is clearly advertised as a 3-hour experience. If guests wish to arrange a longer private or extended tour, this needs to be organized IN ADVANCE through our sales team so that proper logistics, fuel planning, and scheduling can be arranged. Guides in the field are not able to extend tours beyond the scheduled timeframe. We are glad that you were able to see the aurora. We always aim to deliver the experience exactly as described and regret if there was any mismatch between expectations and the structure of this adventure.
We got lucky, the sky was clear and we got to see nothern light within half an hour we arrived at the side. Andrew who was our guide, kind enough to recommend us a better location for us to sight nothern light. We manage to get few good shot of us with aurora. Thank you for an amazing evening. Highly recommended for people who hunting aurora. ❤️🌹
We initially booked this very trip as a family of 3 and were able to get a subtle glimpse of the fascinating Northern Lights. Our guide Andrei was so compassionate and accomodating & provided us with intriguing information about Finland in general alongside the Northern Lights. We were able to make conversation and have pleasant interactions whilst waiting and indulging in activities such as roasting marshmallows and having small talk. He was nothing but wholesome, entertaining and cooperative. We would reccommend both the tour and specifically our guide tremendously.
