Anthropology Museum (6 people maximum).

Description
This tour is built through the lens of an interdisciplinary artist and researcher (DOI published) who loves the intersection between art pieces, and the history of those societies who created them. More than describing what you can actually see and read in the descriptions, the idea is to use these pieces to understand the symbols they contain and to decipher some of the key elements of these cultures. The design and the script behind this experience are meant to convey all this information in a clear and concise way, but we are also open and willing to deliver more specific information depending on the guest's needs. The guide owns a tourist certification at Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia and a bachelor in Design and Visual Communication at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
Tour Options
Itinerary
This experience curated by an artist, researcher, and official tourist guide focuses on the project behind the design of the National Anthropology Museum, but mostly, on 6 of the 11 archaeology rooms in the building. By the end of it, you will have a clear understanding of the most representative cultures who inhabited Mesoamerica before the fall of Mexico Tenochtitlan in August 1521. Among others, we will use pieces from the Olmeca, Zapoteca, Teotihuacan, and Mexica cultures as vehicles for traveling through time and understanding their complex societies. Did you know that some of the pieces we are going to see that are made of gold, jade, and obsidian were stolen on December 25th, 1985? There’s a lot we can tell you about this museum.

This was a small group tour at the anthropology museum. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, had a good personality and taught us about the history of Mexico. He also had many years of training in art and history which helped us to understand everything. In addition, he used ear pieces and a microphone which allowed us to always be able to hear him even when there was a large group near us. Highly recommend!
Rahul was incredibly knowledgeable and shared his passion for Mexican history with us in a way that was both engaging and informative and easy for us to take in a lot of information!
5 out of 5. informative tour adding depth to many of the presentations. Informative guide added depth to many exhibits.
The tour was exceptionally well curated and thoughtfully designed. Our guide shared a wealth of information in a clear, engaging way that was accessible even to those with little prior knowledge of Mexican culture and history.
After taking Raul's amazing architecture tour I jumped on this one & was not disappointed. Last year I visited the museum 3 times and spent ~20 hours exploring it. This tour gave me a MUCH better understanding Mesoamerican and Mexican history & culture. Raul isn't just expertly familiar with the content of the museum because it's his formal area of study, he's also deeply enmeshed with the museum's curatorial staff, and so has an insider's knowledge of the decisions around design, layout & artifact choice that are very illuminating. He's able to highlight patterns and connections that elucidate the narrative structure of the exhibits. This is huge for better understanding developments in Mesoamerican aesthetic practice, social & political organization, and commercial, spiritual, & martial dispositions, however it provides the added benefit of allowing one to consider the role of the museum ITSELF in the construction of Mexican national identity. I couldn't recommend this tour enough!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour- Raul was an enthusiastic guide and led us through the museum in a way that allowed us to take in the information and notice things we would have completely missed. We all enjoyed it a great deal and felt we got a lot more out of our visit!
Great experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made all the difference in understanding Mexican history pre Cortez
Raul was a very knowledgeable and informative guide We learned so much about the history of th museum
My daughter and I are very familiar with Raul's other tours. We were confident to introduce him to our friends for this tour. He did not disappoint. We all felt we learned so much. While Raul is very well prepared to provide an illuminating tour, he is also very happy to respond to questions and engage in a discussion. He has greatly enhanced my appreciation for the country of Mexico.
The museum is replete with artifacts from so many different civilizations and eras. Luckily we had Raul as our guide to help us absorb and understand the material. Raul is a true scholar and gave us the tour in chronological order while also sharing some of the influence in today’s society. I tend to tune out on boring lectures but Raul had us captivated the entire time. His knowledge and passion really came through. Highly recommend getting a guide to help truly learn and grasp the culture
