Our first stop will be at this panoramic viewpoint. The drive here usually takes about 30 minutes from the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Cruise Port, and approximately 70 minutes if you are coming from the South of the island.
We will drive to the trailhead, a journey of approximately 30 minutes. Our route takes us through the heart of a dense, ancient laurel forest, eventually leading us to a unique village. Here, you will see a remarkable way of life: half of the dwellings are built directly into the cliffs, forming traditional cave houses. It’s a fascinating glimpse into how the local inhabitants have integrated their homes into the natural rock for generations.
We begin our hike by ascending along a specially maintained official trail. This path allows us to venture deep into the ancient laurel forest while staying right on the crest of the mountain.
At this location, we will make two distinct stops at spectacular viewpoints. One of them offers a stunning 360° panoramic view on clear days, providing a full perspective of the island's rugged beauty. You will also have the opportunity to walk through the relict laurel forest. This is a unique chance to see with your own eyes the ancient endemic species that have survived on Tenerife since before the last Ice Age. It is a living museum of natural history.
Our return journey takes us through San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the first capital of Tenerife. From here, the drive to Santa Cruz de Tenerife takes approximately 30 minutes, while reaching the South of the island will take about 60 minutes.

I had a wonderful experience hiking in the Anaga Mountains with my guide, Alex. He was knowledgeable, accommodating, and great company throughout the day. The hike was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever done, with truly breathtaking views. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get off the beaten path and experience a less touristy side of Tenerife.
Michal did a fantastic job of leading our hike. He was a great guide and made each and every one of us on the tour feel safe and tailored the tour to our desires
What and amazing day! While the trip is not for the faint of heart and not for the physically fit, it was incredible. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and was helpful to be sure we were safe by pointing out loose gravel, best ways to climb steep areas. He was encouraging when the trail became steep.
During our one-week cruise around the Canary Islands, this hike in the Anaga region was the absolute highlight. Michal is an exceptional guide, warm, knowledgeable, always exploring new routes, connected to the local people and their secluded way of life. He knows when to share stories and when to just walk in silence and take in the sounds and atmosphere of nature. The hike itself was fabulous: varied, scenic, and gently increasing in difficulty without ever feeling rushed or strenuous. We encountered only a handful of other hikers, mostly local mountain runners, which made the experience feel authentic and unspoiled. We did many activities during the week, but nothing came close to this one. Highly recommended.
Our guide Elkin was very friendly and explained to us details about Tenerife, its origins, as well as about the landscape and plants, he responded to our wishes. An all-round beautiful hike, you should wear hiking boots and be good on foot
What an amazing day. Eugene our guide was fantastic. We stopped off at 3 beautiful viewpoints before going on our hike. The hike was so varied with breathtaking views. We couldn't belive the views when we started and Eugene kept saying it would get better "it's just the warm up" and he wasn't wrong. It did get even more breathtaking as the hike went on. Not only was the hike itself amazing but Eugene was very knowledgeable and passionate! My mum is in her mid seventies and Eugene took the time to make sure she was OK and helped set the pace. Thank you for an amazing day out and for an unforgettable walk we will always cherish and remember.
Dear Karolina, Huge thank you to you and your mum for the wonderful company! You both were simply perfect — so nice and pleasant in every way. And thank you also for being so great on the photos — they turned out really beautiful thanks to you! I will be waiting for you both next time. I’d love to show you something new and beautiful, but perhaps a slightly easier walking route. Warm regards, Eugenio and the Trektenerife©️ 🅾️ ♏
If you happen to be in Tenerife, want a somewhat challenging, off-the-beaten path hike, then you should absolutely book this experience with Alex (who also works with Eugenio). He picked our family of four up at the cruise port, and after driving us through town, we headed up into the hills/Anaga. Stopped at an overlook to see a snow-covered Mount Teide in the distance. The trail itself wound its way around a valley on the north side of the island (you can see Punta Del Hidalgo in the distance), about 4 miles, 1000' of climb total. We saw a few other hikers and some runners, but mostly had the trail to ourselves. It really had it all - spectacular views, waterfalls, interesting terrain, goats! We're pretty experienced hikers, but water channel part of the hike was unlike anything we'd done before and was definitely memorable! Alex was informative, a great companion, and paced us well. Would definitely have him guide us again.
Jon, thank you so much for such a wonderful review! We’re really thrilled that you enjoyed the tour! It was also such a nice surprise for me running into the three of you halfway along the hiking trail. I want to thank you for handling the route so easily — and you even managed to get right up close to the waterfalls at the end! That’s a real stroke of luck; they only really come to life like that in winter and spring. We’d love to show you something new and unique next time! Best regards, Eugenio&Akex&Trektenerife
Real Hidden Gem! We made so many beautiful photos of the mountains, relict forest and Atlantic ocean.
Hi Arthur_H, Thanks a million for the awesome review! 😄 Anaga really is a hidden gem – stoked you got those epic shots of the mountains, relict forest, and the Atlantic! You gotta come back and join me for a more challenging hike through Anaga next time – the tougher trails are next-level wild and rewarding. I promise it’ll blow your mind even more! 🥾💪 Can’t wait to hit the trails with you again! Cheers, Eugenio 🤝
I participated in a group tour for a fantastic discovery day, and everything was superb. Despite being a group, we encountered only four other people along the route, which was a significant highlight. I felt completely safe with our guide, Eugenio, and had a great time. We explored truly wonderful, off-the-beaten-path locations. Eugenio shared many interesting stories about the island and its history during the trip. He was also kind enough to take some good pictures throughout the hike. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable and safe experience.
Hi Andrew_L, Thanks so much for your wonderful review! 😊 It really means a lot to me – hearing that you felt safe, had fun, and loved the off-the-beaten-path spots and stories makes my day. I’m super grateful for your kind words, and it was a pleasure guiding you! Hope to see you back on the trails someday! Warm regards, Eugenio 🤝
The logistics for this trip were handled with great clarity. Eugenio picked us up precisely as agreed, provided a thorough overview of what to expect, and confirmed we had all necessary equipment for a safe and enjoyable journey. It was wonderful being out in the Anaga mountains. Eugenio selected an engaging route, incorporating diverse trails to show us both standard and less-traveled paths through the landscape. The total duration of the outing, including travel time and several stops to appreciate the views, was approximately 7 hours. Overall, this trip is highly recommended to experience and enjoy the Anaga mountains.
Hi David Thanks a bunch for your kind review! 😊 I’m really happy everything went smoothly – from the pickup to checking gear and mixing those classic and off-trail paths in Anaga. It was great having you along, and I’m glad you enjoyed the full day out in the mountains! Hope our paths cross again on another hike soon! Cheers, Eugenio 🤝
