An audio tour of Rethymno: From Ancient Greece to modern times

Description
This self guided audio tour begins a stone’s throw from the old Venetian harbor and its impressive lighthouse. From there, we’ll enjoy a slow wander through tiny alleyways, filled with Venetian houses. We’ll pass museums where you can have a look inside, if you like. (The early Minoan artifacts that were found nearby are amazing.) We’ll also visit the huge Fortezza with its magical domed mosque and its excellent panoramic views over both the city and the Aegean Sea. Along the way, you'll hear about: How the city got its name The impact of the Ottoman Turks The cruel story behind the Four New Martyrs church The architect and builder of the Venetian Loggia The layout inside the Greek Orthodox Church and its religious traditions Why and how Byzantine icons are so special on Crete What the memorial posters you see everywhere on the electricity poles and walls mean

Rethymno is a wonderful old but very quaint and inviting town. All streets are narrow but allow enough room for restaurants and stores inviting you in just by walking by. You won't need a car because the parking is very limited. I recommend taking a food tour to learn about their history, culture and sample delicious food, drink & honey.
The idea of self-guide audiotours is good, but the app need to be drastically improved, and in our case, the audioguide of Rethymno, Greece was voiced by a guy with a very thick dutch accent that made it difficult at times to understand what he was saying and had to consult the text for clarifying.
Hi there, We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience. Could you send more information on what you feel needs to be improved in the app? Feedback from users, like yourself, are important to us, and will help guide future improvements. As for the guide's accent, I understand that travellers from different countries may have trouble understanding narration by publishers with strong accents. I'm sorry that you weren't able to understand what was being said, though this sounds like it is a subjective opinion rather than one that would apply to all travellers. Nevertheless, we appreciate your feedback and are glad you found the text accompanying the audio helpful. Regards, Brent
This is a fantastic way to visit a city! We could set the pace, make the stops we wanted and see the main sights and get key information. I wish there were more cities available as I would 100% do this again. The only note I have is to be sure the information is as updated as possible. For example, the icon shop is now out of business.
Fantastic old town with lovely narrow streets and picturesque alleyways. Lots of restaurants and variety. Audio tour ok for the price but audio not always in sync with location and took me to start point and then said start 600m away!
Great tour, and nice that you can take it at your own pace, stopping wherever takes your fancy and then continuing anytime
This was a great, relaxed tour which we managed to cover within the specified time. It was a good opportunity to get the best of the city without having to purchase a guided tour. The fact that you could pause and revisit places was a bonus as we did not feel rushed. We went back a second time and explored some of the places we had gone by during the tour.
