It's a great trip. A couple of lovely walks and the views are amazing with the red sandstone mountains. Our guide, Rúal, was so knowledgeable about the environment there. He called to the Capuchin monkeys he heard in the distance and they answered! It wasn't made clear that we wouldn't walk in the forest with the fern trees, so I was disappointed about that. I would have happily paid another night to have walked there.
My friends and I booked a couple of eco tours with Nick's Adventures to extend our Bolivia fly fishing trip. Nick's Adventures provided us with great service and put together a fantastic schedule of tours for us while we were in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. We especially enjoyed your tour guide, Miriam, who is an amazing woman and taught us a great deal about the history and ecology of the area and the Amazon region. She gets an A++ from our group. We also appreciated our driver who got us to all our destinations safe. Refugio Los Volcanes in Amboro National Park was an amazing place, and we all were in awe of the scenery, bird life, locally grown food and the fantastic staff. We also really enjoyed our stay at El Publito, which was such a cool and eclectic hotel in the beautiful city of Samaipata. Your operation is first class, and I think we all will use you again when we travel back to Bolivia. Thank you.
We spent 2 nights in the Refugio de los Volcanes with Mauricio. He was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, also patient with our children. We spent every day trekking in the jungle, looking for wildlife (monkeys and birds) swimming in the river, eating excellent food and relaxing in the beautiful refuge. This is a fabulous trip for hiking in the wonderful Bolivian jungle.
Amboro is spectacular, the food at Los Volcanes was top notch and our tour guide was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable!
Private tour of amazing property adjacent to Amboro National Park including transportion there and back. Not an easy task as it ends in a 5 Km challenging dirt road. Personable and knowledgeable guide. Hikes of varying difficulty. Views galore. Overnight in a delightful small lodge.
Hi Martha Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Happy the trip met expectations
Amboro National Park has stunningly beautiful landscape in every direction you look. The accommodation is set at the base of the valley, incircled by towering rock formations and a beautiful stream with waterfalls by the eating area. Lots of options for beautiful walks on forest trails, swimming in plunge pools, panoramic views and bird watching. My guide through Nicks Adventures was Jorge- such great company- genuinely enthusiastic about everything we saw, from bizarre catepillars to beautiful mackaws but could also sit in quite contemplation with me. I could happily of stayed a few more nights. The food was incredibly delicious and varied and there were lots of hammocks and sitting areas to relax. This experience far exceeded my expectations, Amboro is incredibly beautiful.
Did the 2x night/3x day stay at Refugio los Volcanes. It's true that organizing through Nick's Adventures was extremely expensive by Bolivian standards, and I guess I could have cobbled the whole thing together on my own and on the fly, but for the price not only did I have all the information I needed in advance to prepare, and a frictionless fantastic stay at the incredible Refugio in Amboro with door-to-door pickup and drop-off, but I also had the full time insight and expertise of my assigned guide, Ramon, to draw from, who immeasurably added to the experience with his sharp eye and extensive knowledge and insights into the flora and fauna of the jungle, and culture and politics of the country, as we trekked around one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen on earth. We also made a stop on the outbound trip at a wildlife preserve in Santa Cruz where we were able to get extremely close to four different kinds of monkey and a three-toed sloth. Given this was my first trip to Bolivia, and I had a packed itinerary, it was definitely worth it to pay the extra amount to have such a well-managed and well-delivered experience. You can find my separate review of the Refugio itself here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g303189-d1788691-r910061696-Refugio_Los_Volcanes-Samaipata_Santa_Cruz_Department.html
Had a strenuous trip through Bolivia (including ascent of Huayna Potosi) and wanted to follow with gentle tours: that is exactly what Amboro National Park offers : past waterfalls to beautiful views ( short , medium to 4 h and longer trails). The Refugio de volcanos is very idyllic and the food was one of the best in Bolivia. There are also guides on site who offer morning and afternoon tours - but I was glad to have been out with Nick’s guide Ramon! Big thanks to Nicks Adventures !
Didn’t see any animals apart from some parrots in the treetops. I think the tour is overpriced for what you get. We had an Amazon rain forest trip for 3 days and 2 nights in Peru for the same price and it included way more activities. Also our guide said she would send some of the photos she took of us to Nick so he could email them to us. We are still waiting after 2 weeks.
Hi We are sad you feel that way as the vast majority of our travellers love this trip ! We did tell you that the Amboro trip is not the best for wildlife and that we have better options, we also made it very clear that no wildlife is promised. Did you check your spam box. As we sent the images that our guide took. We hope to see you one day in Bolivia and hope that next time you let us know that wildlife watching is a main priority. Kind regards
You get what you pay for. Nick and his team were great all around. Our original tour was flooded so Nick arranged another tour and personally guided us through Amboro from the Refugio los Volcanes. They also promptly refunded the difference in tour price w/no issues. They were honest and transparent from the start. The man has connections throughout Bolivia that we utilized after leaving the Santa Cruz area. Nick is a great guide and spotted things I would have walked right by. He and his team have a wealth of incredibly helpful info and they promptly answered texts after our tour was over, helping us arrange transport, giving advice, etc. I will use Nick's Adventures when I return to Bolivia.
