If you’re considering this cooking class, stop looking and book it. It ended up being one of the absolute highlights of our week in Puglia. From the very beginning, Paola and her daughter were exceptional hosts. Their communication before the class was excellent, with clear directions to a convenient (and free) parking area where they met us exactly on time. From there, they drove us to their beautiful farmhouse, an authentic historic barn that has been lovingly restored into the kind of home you dream about when you imagine the Italian countryside. We were welcomed with refreshing lemon and herb-infused water before heading straight into the garden to pick the zucchinis, tomatoes, and basil that would become part of our lunch. It immediately felt less like a cooking class and more like being invited into someone’s home. We started with coffee prepared in a traditional moka pot before making what turned out to be one of the best tiramisù we had during our entire trip through Italy. After eating what felt like hundreds of versions throughout our travels, that is saying something. The cooking itself was hands-on, relaxed, and incredibly authentic. We slowly roasted tomatoes over the stove for over an hour to create a rich, deeply flavorful sauce, learned to make wonderfully tender meatballs with a few family secrets (including fresh lemon zest and herbs), prepared a vibrant pesto using basil we’d just picked from the garden, and made fresh pasta dough from scratch before shaping both orecchiette and cavatelli by hand. Once everything was ready, we sat down to an incredible feast. Alongside everything we had prepared, Paola surprised us with homemade focaccia, delicious capocollo, incredibly fresh mozzarella from a nearby dairy, olive oil produced on the property, and local Puglian rosé. Every single bite was memorable. We finished the afternoon exactly as you should in Italy, with homemade limoncello and our incredible tiramisù, before they drove us back to our car. What made this experience so special wasn’t just the outstanding food. It was the generosity, warmth, and genuine hospitality that Paola and her daughter shared throughout the day. They made us feel like welcomed friends rather than tourists attending an activity. We left completely full, having learned new skills, shared wonderful conversations, and experienced a truly authentic slice of Puglian life. Without hesitation, this is one of the best cooking experiences we’ve ever had. Don’t miss it.
It was overall a rich experience. It seems there are many providers in the area, who offer slightly different experiences, so that may 'muddle' the sense of who this experience is run with. That said, while I appreciate the time taken by the host, I find the price tag too high, with hindsight. Probably, it makes sense for them to run this activity, only with a minimum number of participants, but there is not enough demand, hence the price hiking up.
What an absolutely amazing time! Maria and her daughter Rosanna welcomed us into their home and hearts. The food was incredible, but more than that was their genuine love of sharing this experience. I could go on for hours about it!
We had a great time learning how to roll pasta and make tiramisu! Afterwards, we had the best lunch that we had on our entire trip prepared with fresh and delicious ingredients, sitting outside in a beautiful quiet courtyard! Thank you Giovannella for a wonderful experience
