A day visiting the El Alamein war memorials and museum - from Alexandria.

Rasha arranged for Hany the driver to take me directly to Alamein. I was picked up at my hotel at 8am sharp - the journey was just under 2 hours (there was congestion in the road); we stopped briefly for a coffee and then went to the German memorial at Alamein which is impressive but sobering - a guard calls a keyholder to allow entry. Then I visited the War Museum where I spent between one and two hours - there is a mixture of indoor and outdoor displays - I found the legends (all translated into English) informative and balanced. There is a small charge for this) Egp 350 in cash. Finally I visited the nearby Commonwealth Cemetery - which is a sombre experience. All of the sites were exceedingly quiet but well looked after. I returned to my hotel in Alexandria by 2pm (a quicker journey of just over an hour as there were no hold ups). Everything was well organised - Hany was helpful and pleasant.

A really responsive and personalised tour

We had a really great and informative trip with the help of Karim and Heba. Even though we had not booked in advance, Karim Bent over backwards to arrange a guide for the next day. Heba was knowledgeable and patient and took us to all the major sites, which were beautifully kept and very moving. A real highlight is the beautiful Italian memorial , which is a really incredible piece of 1950s architecture, spare and light and peaceful.

You Need to do This Tour!

Heba was extremely informative and friendly throughout the whole tour. She allowed me to take as much time as I wanted at each stop and there was never any pressure to “stop and shop” like I have often come across on tours. Also, Assam, the driver, always made the drive feel comfortable and safe.

Operator response

Thanks a lot for your positive feedback. We are very glad you loved your tour. Happy to serve you again!

Definitely Worth Doing!

Very informative and you are given as much time as you want at each stop. Unlike other tours, you are not pressured into visiting perfume shops, etc., although the offer of a delicious ice cream, which Reba, the guide offered to pay for, was an added bonus. Also, Assam the driver, always made me feel safe on the long trip.

Operator response

Al Alamein war history tour

Kareem made the experience very easy for us. We were a group of three and he made sure we had a suitable car for the journey. He picked us up on time and clearly explained the itinerary for the day. Activities were well paced and he was very knowable about all the sites. The driver was very good too. All in all a good day!

Private Tour to El Alamein

This was a special trip for my son and I,we had the opportunity to visit the grave of my great uncle who was buried in the Commonwealth cemetery at El Alamein. Our guide Karim was very knowledgeable ,very easy to get along with and understood our specific requirements to spend as much time as possible at the Commonwealth cemetery. It was an emotional visit for us and Karim was highly respectful of this. His communication was superb and I would highly recommend him as a tour guide.
