Highly recommend including for solo female travelers. Book it — and book for the start of your trip

One of the best experiences of my trip — and my strong advice is to do this at the very start of your time in Addis. From the moment we left the hotel, our guide Muluken was pointing out landmarks and sharing history through the window. By the time we reached our first stop I already had a mental map of the city and a clearer sense of how to spend the rest of my days. Sabahar was the highlight — the weaving experience, the fair trade mission, the artisans, and the products themselves were all exceptional. Muluken gave us as much time there as we wanted, which I loved. The family home visit was deeply moving — making injera for the first time and sitting through the full coffee ceremony in someone's kitchen is something I won't forget. Muluken is warm, knowledgeable, and speaks excellent English. Highly recommend to solo female travelers. Book it — and book it first.

Great experience, only can suggest to book with them

We did a half-day city tour during a long stopover in Addis Ababa and were extremely satisfied with the experience. Biruk out guide organized everything perfectly — the pickup was uncomplicated and on time, which made the whole stopover stress-free from the start. Biruk is very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The tour was well structured, interesting and gave us a great first impression of Addis Ababa and Ethiopia despite the limited time we had. Everything was smooth, flexible, and well organized, exactly what you want when you’re in transit. Highly recommended for anyone with a stopover who wants to see the city without any hassle. We would definitely book again.

Half-day Addis Ababa Tour

We booked a half-day tour in Addis Ababa on an eight hour layover, it was the perfect way to spend the time in the capital city of Ethiopia. Thank you, Muluken, for the quick responsiveness and getting us set up with a tour, and following through to ensure all went well. We really appreciated the level of detail provided and all of the options that were available. Upon arrival at Addis Ababa, our driver and guide were waiting for us at the parking lot area just as the instructions had indicated. We had the pleasure of spending the half-day with our passionate and knowledgeable guide, Biruk! In just six hours we were able to swing by the museum to see incredible fossils including Lucy, then we had a local coffee ceremony experience with a delicious local lunch, we made our way outside of Mt. Entoto park for a scenic photo-op, and descended back into town on a scenic drive through both new neighborhoods and old before drop off at the airport. Biruk is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing his culture, we were so glad to have him as our guide! Thank you for giving us a taste of Ethiopian culture, it is certainly a country I want to re-visit with more time. If you have an 8+ hour layover, I highly recommend this tour.

Merit Half day tour (morning) of Addis during a long layover with Ethiopian Airlines

Me and my friend had a layover in Addis on route to Rwanda to attend a conference, so we decided to choose the long layover (sleep in Addis as part of the Ethiopian airline package) and arrange a half-day tour of Addis for next morning, before we left to Kigali in afternoon. Booking process was very smooth, Merit team assisted with itinerary and accommodated to our flight times. Henok was our guide, he and the driver (forgot his name, sorry!) picked us up from hotel at 9AM. We drove through the market, went to oldest coffee shop in town, to the Ethnological national museum to check on Lucy; followed by a drive to the mount Entoto and a tradicional lunch and coffee ceremony at a local family house. Back to airport by 2 PM, on time to our afternoon flight. I have being to Addis airport several times for layover, never went out of airport. This long layover and half day tour was the perfect solution to finally see a bit of Addis and learn a little about Ethiopia history (it is very rich!) and local costumes. I recommend Merit tours for that, if you had the chance to explore a bit. PS: Visa was smooth and free, as part of the long layover with Ethiopian airlines (they don't stamp the passport, it is done in boarding pass). You may have to sign a paper at your allocated hotel assuming responsibility for leaving the hotel, as the voucher from Ethiopian airlines includes hotel, meals and transfer from and to airport).

Fantastic tour of Addis.

We had a brief layover, and Enoch took such good care of us and our young children. He was up to do whatever we were interested in and really engaged our young children, and the teenagers. Very knowledgeable about history, politics, culture. Has such love and passion for showing people his country. Highly recommended.

Wonderful tour is Addis Ababa!

We had a fantastic day exploring Addis Ababa with our guide Biruk and driver Addis. The highlights included a fun walk through the bustling Mercato, where we picked up a beautifully handwoven basket, and a scenic drive up Entoto Mountain with stunning views over the city. One of the most memorable moments was visiting a local family’s home for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, complete with delicious home-cooked food and honey wine. Biruk was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Ethiopian history, which really brought the museum visit and city landmarks to life. We also made a fun stop at the old train station for another round of coffee. Overall, it was a well-paced, insightful, and thoroughly enjoyable day. Highly recommended!
