Mount Entoto (Amharic: እንጦጦ) is the highest peak on the Entoto Mountains, which overlooks the city of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It reaches 3,200 meters above sea level. Overview It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace, when he came from Ankober and founded Addis Ababa. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. Mount Entoto is also the location of a number of celebrated churches, including Saint Raguel and The mountain is densely covered by eucalyptus trees that were imported from Australia during the reign of Menelik II, and mostly planted during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign. Thus, it is sometimes referred to as the "lung of Addis Ababa". The forest on the mountain is an important source of firewood for the city. It was also a source of building material in earlier times.
Saint George's Cathedral is an Ethiopian Orthodox church in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The cathedral is noted for its distinctive octagonal form. It is located at the northern end of Churchill Road in the city.[1] Overview The new church was built on the ruins of an older church from the 15th century. It was named after St. George, after the Tabot (Ark) of the church was carried to the Battle of Adwa against the Italians during which the Ethiopians secured victory.[2] One of the founders was Andargaye, and his daughter, Kisela Andargaye and her husband, Agonafir Woldeyess are buried in the church yards. The building was described in 1938 in an Italian tourist publication as a fine example of the European interpretation of Ethiopian church design.[3] The Italian Fascist authorities set the building on fire in 1937. The cathedral was later restored by Emperor Haile Selassie following the liberation in 1941. it is one of the most colorfull church in addis ababa
Mercato is the largest open-air market in Africa, covering several square miles and employing an estimated 13,000 people in 7,100 business entities. The primary merchandise passing through the Merkato is locally grown agricultural products — most notably coffee.
Meskel Square is a square in the city of Addis Ababa. It is often a site for public gathering or for demonstrations and festivals, notably, the Meskel Festival from which it takes its name. Concerts, parades, and various other government and public events are also held there. The word "Meskel" means "cross" and the festival commemorates the moment when the crucifix was revealed to Empress Helena of Constantinople. Following the fall of the monarchy in 1974, Meskel Square was renamed "Abiot" or Revolution Square. It was greatly expanded so that it could accommodate the annual Revolution Day and May Day parades on September 12 and May 1. Three gigantic portraits of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin were erected in the square. The national monument in memory of those massacred by the Derg regime in the "Red Terror" of the 1970s has been built at the eastern entrance to the square.

The Addis Ababa city tour was a really good experience, especially if it’s your first time in the city. We visited the main spots, tried local food, and got a feel for the culture. It was well organized and didn’t feel rushed, which we really appreciated.
I recently had the pleasure of booking an Addis Ababa city tour with Simien Mountain Trekking and Tours, and it was truly an outstanding experience from start to finish. From the moment we were picked up, everything was perfectly organized and professionally handled. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, not only about Addis Ababa’s main attractions but also about Ethiopia’s rich history, culture, and traditions. Visiting the National Museum of Ethiopia and seeing “Lucy” in person was a highlight, and the detailed explanations made the experience even more meaningful. The panoramic views from Mount Entoto were breathtaking, and we loved exploring the vibrant atmosphere of Mercato, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa. What really stood out was the company’s attention to detail and genuine hospitality. The guide was patient, friendly, and happy to answer all our questions. Transportation was comfortable, the schedule was well-paced, and we never felt rushed. They also recommended an authentic local restaurant where we enjoyed traditional Ethiopian cuisine and a beautiful coffee ceremony. Simien Mountain Trekking and Tours went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. If you’re looking for a reliable, professional, and friendly tour operator in Addis Ababa, I highly recommend them. I would absolutely book with them again for future adventures in Ethiopia!
