March 5th, 1957 marked the opening of the largest and oldest of the six museums under the administration of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, which was established by the Duchess of Kent Princess Marina. The artifacts in the archeology section span from the recent past to the Stone Age. Those on permanent exhibition at the ethnography gallery include chief's regalia, indigenous Ghanaian musical instruments, gold weights, beads, traditional textiles, stools and pottery. There are also items from other African nations that were obtained via trade. Senufo masks from Ivory Coast, wooden Zulu figures, and beaded items from Southern Africa are a few examples. Bushongo carvings from the Congo and ancient Ife bronze heads from Nigeria are also present. The modest but striking art gallery's displays mostly feature modern paintings created in oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and collages by contemporary Ghanaians. In addition to these, there are sculptures made of various materials.

The square was built by Kwame Nkrumah as a way to commemorate the country's independence. Queen Elizabeth II was visiting at the same time. When building was completed in 1961, the area was dubbed Black Star Square. The Independence Arch, Black Star Gate, and Liberation Day Monument are among the monuments honoring Ghana's independence struggle that are located in Independence Square in Accra, Ghana. Ghana's Independence Day parade takes place in Black Star Square on March 6th of each year. The Golden Jubilee parade, which commemorated Ghana's 50 years of independence from British colonial rule, was especially noteworthy. The Golden Jubilee celebration was spearheaded by President John Kuffour and took place on March 6, 2007. It also serves as the venue for all significant national festivals and public gatherings.

Guided tour of special inspiring sights in Accra.

Nice day had nice guide, who knew a lot about the places we visited. Only downside is that at the end of the tour we went for some food and the guide and the driver also ordered food and we ended up paying for their food. It would have been neater if they had asked us to pay for their food in advance.

Meaningful Experience

I had a memorable experience on the Boansi Accra city tour, led by two young men who brought energy and insight to the journey through Accra's rich culture and history. It’s inspiring to see the younger generation take the lead in offering visitors such an authentic experience of Ghana, helping to build meaningful connections with the country. There are, however, a few areas for improvement. For instance, presenting a professional first impression with a business ID and logo, perhaps even a visible sticker, would enhance customer confidence. Additionally, improving communication about the tour details and any potential delays beforehand would go a long way in refining the experience. Overall, it's a commendable tour with promising potential. Best wishes with future of business. Erma, SKB
