Itinerary
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to start your unique food tasting journey in Bishkek. Our first destination is the vibrant Osh Bazaar, a cornerstone of local culture. This bustling outdoor market is more than just a place to shop; it's where you can truly immerse yourself in the flavors and daily life of Kyrgyzstan. From fresh food products and spices to an array of local delicacies, Osh Bazaar offers an authentic taste of the region. Amidst the lively crowds and rich aromas, you’ll have the chance to sample traditional foods and understand why this market is a beloved spot among both locals and visitors.
After exploring Osh Bazaar, we'll continue our culinary adventure at a cozy, family-run restaurant known for its exceptional tea brewed in a traditional Russian samovar. Here, you’ll get to taste Kattama bread, a cherished element of Kyrgyz cuisine. Kattama is a crispy, golden brown flatbread made from a simple blend of flour, water, and salt, cooked to perfection on a hot griddle. The combination of this warm, flavorful bread with aromatic tea from the samovar offers a genuine and delightful breakfast experience, letting you savor the true essence of local dining traditions.
After enjoying our delicious first meal, we will take a leisurely walk to discover some of Bishkek's most famous landmarks. Our journey will take us to Ala-Too Square, where we can see the impressive Guard of Honor, and the Monument of Manas near the Kyrgyz History Museum. As we stroll through the city, we'll also experience the vibrant atmosphere of Panfilov Park, catch a glimpse of the White House, and view the historic monument of Lenin. This part of the tour not only allows us to digest our meal but also to soak in the rich culture and history of Bishkek, making our way to the next culinary stop.
Exploring the Philharmonic Hall is one of the highlights of our food walking tour. The magnificent building is surrounded by some of Bishkek's most important landmarks, including the International Kyrgyz University, the Kyrgyz State University and the City Department. We'll take our time to soak up the stunning architecture and rich history before heading to Faiza, one of the oldest and most beloved restaurants in town.
At Faiza, one of the oldest and most loved restaurants in Bishkek, our tour continues with a taste of authentic Oriental cuisine. This place is famous for its wide variety of flavors and dishes that appeal to everyone, no matter where they come from or what they prefer to eat. Faiza is more than just a restaurant; it's a place where everyone feels welcome. It doesn't matter who you are – you'll find something on the menu to enjoy. Whether you're in the mood for a meaty dish or a vegetarian option, Faiza offers some of the best culinary experiences in the city, bringing people together over great food.
After enjoying the flavors at Faiza, we'll take a scenic drive to Victory Square, picking up our tour from there. On the way, we'll pause at notable spots like the Central Mosque, the Circus, and the Wedding Hall, each adding its own story to our journey. The day's adventure concludes with a special treat at a restaurant renowned for its desserts. Here, we'll indulge in ChakChak, a traditional honey-soaked treat, paired with refreshing green tea. This sweet finale introduces you to the delightful side of Kyrgyz cuisine, rounding off our culinary exploration with a taste of tradition.

We had hoped for a better experience with Datka Travels during our family trip to Kyrgyzstan. We booked a Bishkek food tour, Ala-Archa National Park day trip, and a transfer in advance, clearly stating we were traveling with a little one and needed a family-friendly guide Unfortunately, the guide assigned to us for the food tour was not the right fit for our family. He kept walking far ahead of us, rushed through the bazaar, and seemed impatient that we weren't keeping up. It came to a head when he left us behind at a walk signal turning red resulting in a bus honking at us, and then told us we needed to speed up. The food stops themselves were actually good and we enjoyed trying the different places. However, there was little explanation about the food or local culture, so the tour felt more like being taken from one place to another rather than a guided food experience. There was also a lot of miscommunication from the company. For instance, we paid extra to book an English-speaking driver for our transfer, but then were told by the tour manager this was not the case even though it was previously agreed upon. After escalations and much back-and-forth, it was resolved. Similarly, on the day of our food tour, the guide told us to convert money at Osh Bazaar to pay him. The company had not communicated to us to pay the guide directly, nor did it seem they let the guide know we had already made a deposit with Datka that needed to be netted out. This created an awkward situation at the start of the tour which was unnecessary. Overall, the experience ws below expectations, especially since we were only in Kyrgyzstan for a few days and had made our requests clear in advance. We ended up booking the rest of our activities with another company, who were much more organized, communicative, and better suited for a family traveling with a child.
This is such a lovely way to discover Bishkek! It was more than just a foodtour! We also visited the highlights of the city. The food was very tasty! Also suitable for vegetarians and families. Our children age 8 and 11 enjoyed it very much. Highly recommend!
Great day out with Farouk,Booking.this tour you will not be disappointed
Faruk was our guide today. He was exceptional. Very knowledgeable and very proud of his country. He was also an excellent driver through these busy and challenging traffic.
Incredible city and food tour with Faruk. Compared to other food tour experiences, we had a lot more say in what we were able to try and we didn't feel limited in our choices. Faruk was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, friendly, and quick to a smile/laugh. You can tell that he's very proud of his country and its history, which made the tour all the more special. I would recommend this tour to any and all, especially if you're just getting into Bishkek.
Faruk was very friendly and knowledgeable! He shared so much history of Kyrgyzstan and answered all of our questions. We were very comfortable in his vehicle and left with full stomachs!
Anvar was our guide today. What a really interesting guy he turned to be. He walked us around some really fascinating areas in the main town and we were privileged to see the changing of the guards at Ala-too square in front of the state historical museum. He explained the history of the warrior Manas. First though we went to a traditional tent for tea and crispy bread with sour cream. We had lunch at was clearly a really popular local restaurant. We had huge dumplings and a crispy “meat pie” called samsa alongside noodles, the local rice with meat and traditional soup. Delicious! There was some more walking around the university district and then off for a sweet crispy treat and tea. A really interesting day overall and we’d recommend the tour very much. Thank you Anvar!
It was a good day, we visited three different restaurants and the Osh Bazaar, where we tasted local cuisine.
Our guide for the tour was Faruk. He took us on a fantastic, well paced five hour journey to a local restaurant, a hidden restaurant, and a fancy restaurant where we tried many local specialities. We also got a tour of major sites and went in the mosque. We were very glad for Foruk as he was fun, friendly, professional, and shared so much interesting information. We would absolutely book with Datka Travel again.
Anvar was a fantastic guide. Informative, personable and gracious. The tour provided insight into the history of Bishkek as well as it's food and culture. A great introduction
