Great views of orcas hunting. Great views of Stellar Sealions and Dall porpoise
MOST FANTASTIC DAY!! Due to a scheduling issue with another provider we had to find a new provider. WE LUCKED OUT! Jason and the gang at Big Animal Encounters were able to seamlessly accommodate our group of 9 including 3 kids. Just after we departed the Harbor in Comox we encountered a group of Humpbacks breaching and as we got closer we encountered Chainsaw the famous Orca along with an entire Tea Party of Orcas. Total of about 16. The Humpbacks were working in and out of the group which we were told was very unusual. We followed them for 4 hours on incredibly flat seas and a beautiful late day sun. Breach. Jason was the best while respecting the animals and giving them room to roam and focus on the task at hand (or fin). GREAT Day and so very thankful to the team at Big Animal Encounters for making a bad situation fantastic for all.
Very nice and competent reception. The tour guide Jason very friendly and informative. We observed 10 humpback whales during the tour as well as sea lion and seals. In addition, during the tour we were served hot and cold drinks with snacks during a stopover.
We very much enjoyed our 4 hr tour with Captain Chris on the hard top covered boat, a full compliment of 12 passengers were very comfortable inside, as well the open back deck was large enough to comfortably fit all 12 of us and Captain Chris when we would stop to view Whale and other wildlife activity. We were able to enjoy a small pod of Orcas right off the coastline of Campbell River proper, 2 full size whales with what we presumed was a youngster frolicking in the waters. It was a delightful sight to see as close up as we could safely view these activates without disturbing or bothering the animals. I found Captain Chris to be very knowledgeable of all the surroundings on our trip and gave wonderful descriptions of the area and it's native peoples that inhabited the land. He was able to provide us many interesting facts about the Big Animals we encountered on our trip. Eagles, Seals, Sea Lions and the best viewing of a small family of Hump Back whales which we followed at a safe distance for perhaps an hours time. It was very interesting and enjoyable to witness first hand. One thing that really impressed me was his eagerness to fill the wants and needs of his passengers. Just before we embarked I had asked him what the chances of us seeing Seymour Narrows where the Worlds largest non Nuclear blast took place to blast away 60' of Ripple Rock in 1958. For myself it was a bucket list request of sorts as I had always want to see the area but unfortunately the tides were not right at that moment for us to witness the huge whirlpools that can be in that area. But hey nature being nature Chris did his best at providing that view for us all and pulled out some captured pictures of the huge blast at the time to give all the passengers on board a better perspective and significant info that some of the guests on board being European had no Idea of. Just as we were about to embark he asked the other passengers if they were interested in seeing Seymour Narrows and they all agreed it was worth the detour. In the end our trip was well worth the value, in fact my water Nervous Nellie wife quite enjoyed the trip herself and enjoyed the comfort of the hard top boat. She grew up at the time of Gilligan's Island and their ill-fated 4 hour tour. Captain Chris was a great host and got us home safe and sound.
Excellent trip, a great wee boat and nice number of passengers. Bill our Captain, was very informative and sought out the humpback whales who put on a wonderful display!! It helped that the weather was great and sea calm.. we all thoroughly enjoyed our trip, thank you
Another amazing trip with Big Animal Encounters! It was so nice to leave from Comox Harbour! We had a humpback Breaching fest! Saw orcas, all round perfect excursion! Chris was an amazing captain!
Paul was an excellent captain and took us right to eagles, harbor seals, sea lions, orca whales, and humpback whales. The zodiac boats are great and the suits they supply keep you nice and warm while cruising through the water. Overall a great experience and one of the highlights of our BC vacation.
From start Paul was really good explaining every aspect of trip He found us Killer whales which made my year In 2023 we used this company with Shannon she found us 20 Hump back whales in four hours again brilliant. I can’t recommend this company enough worth the fee’s
Jenn was an amazing guide. She made our trip a lot of fun. As a researcher she was able to share a lot of information about the animals we were seeing. You can also book with this company knowing that they follow rules regarding the animals’ best interest and safety (along with yours) so it feels like a fun, ethical adventure where you get to see the whales & orcas in their natural habitat without leaving too much of a trace.
Friendly knowledgeable guide was excellent value for money and was lucky enough to see 6 orcas including a couple hunting and jumping out the water!
