Description

The West Kilimanjaro plains are a region in northern Tanzania comprising of both Maasai community lands and Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). The region is filled with acacia woodland and open plains that support a remarkable variety of wildlife and spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The most common animals in the area include wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, impalas, giraffes and baboons. Depending on the time of the year, elephants can also be observed as the region lies along an elephant corridor linking Kenya’s Amboseli’s National Park & Mt. Kilimanjaro. This region is home to the nomadic Maasai herdsmen who co-exist with the surrounding wildlife, hence the term "Maasai Land". Given the rich culture of the Maasai people and the variety of wildlife, a cycling tour in this area is ideal for those discerning travelers looking for an unforgettable off-the-beaten-path adventure experience that includes walking, photography, culture and scenery.

Spectacular 3 day cycle tour around West Kilimanjaro

My 3 day MTB trip is up there as one of the best cycle trips I've ever done. I contacted One Bike Tanzania to discuss what I wanted and they put together a tour that perfectly fitted the brief. Day 1 on the Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau, Day 2 & 3 on the West Kilimanjaro plains cycling through Maasai country. I stayed in two Lodges that were both beyond expectations. Hard to describe other than spectacular! A fantastic trip - would recommend these guys to anyone.

Experience Tanzania's beauty and culture by bicycle

The high level of professionalism and expertise of Mr. Hillary, Mr. Goodluck, Mr. Roger and Mr. Gasto made our 5 day/4 night (3 days cycling) biking adventure an unforgettable experience. We were with over a dozen young (some beginner) bikers and the One Bike team supported everyone to ensure we had an opportunity to see Tanzania's beauty and culture from the perspective of a bicycle. The bicycles are very good quality. They arranged a variety of overnight locations that showcased the diversity of Tanzania's landscape and culture. Highly recommend this as a family, couples, or group experience. Even if you are not an avid biker, you will enjoy. this experience.
