The travel agency did an excellent job with the arrangements. On the first day, the driver picked us up from our hotel in Samarkand and took us to the border. After clearing customs, our guide was waiting for us on the Tajik side. We had a meal and did some shopping in Panjakent before setting off. After about two to three hours of driving, we arrived at Artuch, where we began our hike to Chukurak Lake. The round trip offered stunning views and served as a good warm-up. That night, we stayed at a guesthouse in the village, which was a wonderful experience. Since we had three children with us, local kids came over to play with them. Even though they didn’t share a common language, everyone had a great time playing games and dancing together. The scenery on the second day was even more breathtaking. Although the journey was challenging, the views were absolutely worth it. We finally reached Kulikalon Lake just as it began to snow. Since some in our group, including children, were not very strong in terms of physical stamina, we took our time and completed the hike in about six hours. Those with better fitness could likely finish it in four to five hours. Both days were made even better by our excellent guides, who communicated fluently in English and were always eager to help. We were truly delighted to visit the Fan Mountains — these two days were the most memorable part of our entire trip.
