Point Joe is the 5th point on 17-Mile Drive. Its coastline is made of Granite rocks formed 65 million years back and it gives this coastline a rugged look. The place had several shipwrecks in history due to its rocky shares and its location near to Monterey Bay. The place has ample parking and sitting benches to relax. There are several information boards to read about the place. About the origin of the name Point Joe, there is debate over that for years now. Some historians believe that there was a Chinese man who lived in a driftwood structure here in the early 1900's that sold goods to explorers. It is unclear whether Point Joe was named for the Chinese man or if the man was named after the location. A great place to look out for everyones favorite marine mammal the Souther Sea Otter.

10 min

See the place where an old, Chinese fishing village used to sit.

Outstanding bike tour of a beautiful spot!

We have driven the 17 mile drive before and loved it! Doing it on the bikes gave it a completely new spin and we loved it! Our guide, Leslie, was super friendly and knowledgeable and gave us great talks at each stop! We enjoyed the rides and all of the great info and photo ops at all of the spots. Thank you! Highly recommend — even my husband LOVED IT! :)

17 mile drive Bike with Leslie

Leslie was an amazing guide for our family of 5, 3 teens and two parents. The biking is very easy and the views and experience were a fun start to our trip to Carmel. It was fun to experience Pebble Beach on a bike and we saw tons of wild life; sea otters, sea lions in the waves, and deer.

Super fun with the most beautiful views.

Electric Bike made this tour exciting. We stopped while our tour lead gave us history and showed old pictures of places on the 17 mile drive. I came with my son for a Father’s Day treat. Loved it.

A perfect way to explore the 17 mile drive!

What an awesome experience! This tour is a must if you’re visiting the Carmel area. Leslie was such a friendly, warm and knowledgeable guide, and you can really feel her love for this beautiful place. Getting around on the electric bikes felt comfortable, especially since Leslie guided us so well even when it got busy around some of the more touristy spots. We saw so many things and learned so many things along the 17 mile drive that we wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the tour. So glad we did this, thank you Leslie for a really lovely afternoon!

Grateful for full refund b/c of weather

Mad Dogs & Englishmen bike shop was very accommodating to cancel our reservation because of rain and offer a full refund. I would be happy to book with them again because of how well they took care of us. Prior to the unexpected weather, they communicated well and seemed to be organized and professional. I was looking forward to the experience and disappointed it didn't work out on our trip.

Best way to do 17-mile

Wonderful tour despite having some young people who couldn't keep up on an e-bike. Leslie was a good guide. Easily the best way to sight-see, as being in a car would make things difficult, especially along the road back in front of the beachfront homes.
