Meander among Canadian National Parks and narrow channels of the Lake Fleet and Admiralty Island groups as our naturalist guide shares the history of how the war of 1812 shaped the border between the United States and Canada and how the islands of this unique archipelago were named.

This Tour circumnavigates Grindstone Island, the fourth largest of the 1000 Islands, 2nd largest American Island, and the largest island not connected by bridge or ferry system to either mainland. Lost in time, Grindstone is home to one of the few natural occurring beaches in the islands, 2 New York State Parks, over 14 miles of unpaved roads, a private vineyard, four active beef farms, historic but now abandoned farmlands, and New York State's last operating one-room school house.

First time trip. Definitely worth it. Staff capable and knowledgeable. Boats are smaller so they can get into areas others can't. Very enjoyable. Be aware the dock has a ramp but there are a couple of steps, could be a challenge for some with mobility issues.
Clayton Boat Tours was well worth the money. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our trip. The Captain was friendly along with the guide. We learned so much about the Canadian side of the 1000 Islands. I don’t know a lot about the areas before I went, but I loved to see how nice the river looked, how beautiful the scenery was, and to learn more about the animals that live in and around the river. This tour was around 2 hours and we got to see so much in that time. Clayton Boat Tours is a small business so each trip on their boats feels peaceful. I will definitely do tours with them again.
Thank you for choosing Clayton Island Tours and our 1000 Islands Canada Tour!
Such a relaxing and enjoyable time. It was a bit cold out on the water so I'm glad we took a jacket. The crew was friendly and our guide was very informative. We enjoyed listening to him tell about all the history of the islands. I wish we could have stopped a bit more to take in the scenery, but all in all it was a very nice little cruise.
Thank you for touring with Clayton Island Tours
The weather started out wet and cold, but they had fleece blankets to lend which helped to keep us warm. The rain eventually stopped which helped. My family and I used to go camping in 1000 Islands NY back in the 1970s when I was a kid, and we took some cruises back then. We toured Boldt Castle back before it was renovated, so it's been a while since our last time in the area. It might have been cool to see the reconstruction of Boldt Castle, but we were more interested in seeing the Canadian Islands and the American Islands that are mostly privately owned to check out the houses, cabins, and just to see what it looked like. This tour was really fun for us to see that stuff. Not a historical tour but some fun local stories and a cool way to see local life for people with the money to be able to summer on the St Lawrence River. Our tour guide was a year-round local guy who knows a lot about the area, pointing out the party islands and telling us the local tales including more recent history, and who's been to their summer places and who hasn't, all while the boat's captain kept us safe and comfortable. The price was right. Can't beat a 2.5 hour boat tour on the water for $28, and especially if you catch a nice sunny day. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks, too. They can only carry smallish groups so it's easy to engage and ask questions if you want to. It was fun. The meeting point was easy to navigate and they do have handicapped parking available by the dock. It was easy to book online. The boat isn't very big so the crowds aren't crowded, and it was a nice experience. Go for it! Thank you, from Shirley and Laryssa from Massachusetts!
We did not have an experience. The cruise vendor never received our confirmation or name. The boat for the cruise was canceled. Relatives from N. Carolina were extremely disappointed in the whole fiasco. I am trying to get the ticket cost reimbursed since my credit card was charged. I purchased the tickets on line in advance. Terrible coordination between Viator and 1000 Islands Boat Cruise. I will not use Viator again.
This tour was great. We really enjoyed seeing so many of the islands up close and learning about the history. Our guide (not sure his name) and captain Skip were excellent. They had a lot of fascinating historical detail to share about the many islands we saw. Remember to do what they advise and put your phone on airplane mode for the cruise that goes into Canadian waters. I turned mine off and then later I turned it on thinking we were back in American waters , so I could take a photo. But later got some notification about roaming charges.
We are always happy to hear our guests had a great experience.
Would’ve been beautiful…but our reservation never got sent over to the boat company. So when we showed up for our boat tour, they didn’t have a spot for us. Even had multiple confirmations…very disappointing!
We really enjoyed this tour. The captain was very attentive to the task at hand. Our guide, Dennis, was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. Boldt Castle was worth the trip! I wish we had a bit more time there.
What a grand time we had! Not just a back and forth to Boldt Castle but a real tour of the 1000 river system area (and yes, the Castle was great). Worth every penny and then some! The captain (sorry, I just called him Captain the whole time) and our guide Liam were an awesome team.
Thank you for the awesome review and for mentioning your guide Liam and Captain.
We had a fantastic time and we loved our tour. Captain Bryan and tour guide Bryan were knowledgeable, hospitable and entertaining. The tour guide gave us a wealth of interesting information. The captain navigated to avoid the choppy waters. The tour took us through Canadian waters which I thought was really cool. There are so many beautiful islands and homes to see on this tour. The picnic lunches are made at a small sandwich shop, almost like a food truck, right on the boat tour property. You pick your pre-ordered lunch up from a refrigerator on your way down to the boat dock. Lunch was delicious! All in all, a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend. The only thing I would say is that the waters can get very choppy, so it’s a good idea to take motion sickness medication before your tour.
Thank you for mentioning Captain Brian and Guide Bryan! We are happy you enjoyed the experience and appreciate the great review!
